The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse, "O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the Hour is a tremendous thing" [Surah al-Hajj: 1], was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during a journey, he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his voice until his Companions turned their attention to him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what day this will be? It will be the day when Allah Almighty will say to Adam (peace be upon him): O Adam! Rise and bring out 'ba'th al-nar' (the contingent of the Fire); from every thousand, take out nine hundred and ninety-nine." This weighed heavily upon the Muslims, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep to the right path, be moderate and receive glad tidings. By the One in whose Hand is my soul! Compared with the other nations you are (in number) like a mole on the side of a camel, or like a distinctive mark on the foreleg of an animal. With you will be two creations which increase the number of whatever they are with, namely Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog), and those of the disbelievers among the jinn and mankind who perished."
This chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
This same hadith is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). Muhammad bin Yahya said at its end: In our view this hadith is not preserved (mahfuz) from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him); rather, the preserved narration is the one reported by Qatadah from al-Hasan al-Basri, and by him from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him).

Abd al-Samad narrated this hadith to us through Hisham, Qatadah and al-Hasan al-Basri. The Imam of Imams, Muhammad bin Yahya al-Dhuhli (may Allah have mercy on him), has given his judgment on it, while Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on them both) did not mention any narration in this chapter. It has also been said that al-Hasan al-Basri did not hear from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him).
Imam al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In my view, al-Hasan al-Basri's hearing from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) is established.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and the Companions had become spread out in their pace of travel. He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his voice with these two verses: "O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the Hour is a tremendous thing"; he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited up to "but the punishment of Allah is severe" [Surah al-Hajj: 1 - 2]. When the Companions heard this, they urged on their mounts and realised that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to say something (important). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what day that is?" They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is the day when Adam (peace be upon him) will be called; his Lord will call him and say: O Adam! Bring out the contingent of Hell (those who are to enter Hell). He will say: O my Lord! How many is the contingent of Hell? Allah Almighty will say: From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine will go to the Fire and one to Paradise." Hearing this, the Companions became so despairing and grieved that not a trace of a smile remained on their faces. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this state of his Companions, he said: "Keep doing good deeds and rejoice. By the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! You are with two creations (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) which increase the number of whatever they are with, and those who perished among the children of Adam and the offspring of Iblis (because of them your proportion will be small)." Then the grief which the people were feeling was somewhat relieved. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do good deeds and receive glad tidings. By the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Among (other) people you are (in number) just like a mole on the side of a camel, or like a distinctive mark on the foreleg of an animal."
Sa'id bin Abi Arubah has likewise narrated it from Qatadah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in the presence of his Companions, recited this verse: "O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the Hour is a tremendous thing" [Surah al-Hajj: 1] to the end of the verse. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you know what day that will be?" They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is the day when Allah Almighty will say to Adam (peace be upon him): Stand and bring out the contingent of the Fire - or he said: Send a contingent to the Fire. He will say: O my Lord, out of how many? Allah Almighty will say: Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine to the Fire and one to Paradise." This weighed very heavily on the people, and dejection and grief came over them. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope that you will be a quarter of the people of Paradise." Then he said: "I hope that you will be a third of the people of Paradise." Then he said: "I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise." So they were glad. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep doing good deeds and receive glad tidings, for you are between two creations (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) who, whoever they are with, they make their number very great. And among (other) people - or among the nations - you are just like a mole on the side of a camel, or like a distinctive mark on the foreleg of a she-camel, and my Ummah is one part in a thousand (of all creation)."
This hadith with this addition is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
