It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The last to be gathered will be two shepherds of the tribe of Muzaynah intending to go to Madinah. They will call out to their sheep, but they will find (instead of sheep) wild beasts there, until, when they reach Thaniyyat al-Wada' (the mountain pass), they will fall down on their faces."

It is narrated from Ma'bad bin Khalid that he said: I entered the mosque and saw an elderly man there picking lice (from his clothes). I greeted him with salam and he returned my greeting. I sat down with him and asked: O uncle! Who are you? He said: Rather, O nephew, who are you? I said: I am Ma'bad bin Khalid. He said: Welcome! I knew your father; he was with me in Damascus. Your father and I were the first two horsemen to halt at the gate of Adhra' (a city of Syria). I asked: Who are you? He said: I am Abu Sarihah al-Ghifari, a Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: Narrate to me a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: Yes. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Two men of the tribe of Muzaynah will be the last to be gathered. They will come down from a mountain until they reach the landmarks of human habitation, and they will find the land full of wild animals, until they reach Madinah. When they come near Madinah they will say: Where have the people gone? But they will see no one. One of them will say to his companion: The people must be in their houses. They will enter the houses, but there will be no one there either; rather, foxes and cats will be sitting on the beds. They will say again: Where have the people gone? One of them will say: The people must be in the mosque. They will come to the mosque but will find no one there either. They will say again: Where have the people gone? One of them will say: The people must be in the markets; trade has kept them busy. They will go out to the markets, but there will be no one there either. They will walk on until they reach the mountain pass (thaniyyah), and there will be two angels there who will seize them by their feet and drag them to the land of the Gathering, and they will be the last human beings to be gathered."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
