It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that people will perform Hajj together and stand at Arafah together without any imam. While they are encamped at Mina, suddenly a condition like that of a dog's bite (an inflaming frenzy) will seize them, and the tribes will fall upon one another and fight each other until the Aqabah (the mountain pass) flows with blood. Then in alarm they will seek refuge with the best of them, and they will come to him while he is weeping with his face turned towards the Ka'bah; it is as if I can see his tears. They will say: Come, let us pledge allegiance to you. He will say: Woe to you! How many covenants you have broken, and how much blood you have shed! So allegiance will be taken from him reluctantly. So when you find him, pledge allegiance to him, for he is the Mahdi on the earth and the Mahdi in the heaven.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The first thing of your religion that you will lose is trustworthiness (amanah), and the last thing that will remain is the prayer. And this Qur'an which is among you will soon be taken away. The people said: How will it be taken away when Allah has firmly established it in our hearts and we have preserved it in our copies of the Qur'an (mushafs)? He said: A night will come when what is (preserved) in your hearts and what is in your mushafs will all be gone. Then he recited this verse: "And if We willed, We could surely take away that which We revealed to you" [Surah al-Isra: 86].

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Islam will be worn away (from people's hearts and lives) just as the patterns of an old garment wear away, until people will not even know what the rulings of prayer, fasting, and sacrifice and Hajj are. Only old men and old women will say: We found our elders saying "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah), so we say it too. Silah bin Zufar asked him: "O Hudhayfah! When they know nothing of prayer, nor fasting, nor Hajj and sacrifice, what benefit will 'La ilaha illallah' be to them?" Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Silah! Do you not know that this very testimony will save them from the fire of Hell?!"
