It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that you will soon come to know that you will be in a place where tongues differ, between Babylon and al-Hirah. You will come to know that nine tenths of good and one tenth of evil are in Syria, and you will come to know that nine tenths of evil and one tenth of good are elsewhere (in other places). By the One in whose hand is the soul of Ibn Mas'ud! Soon the most beloved thing on the face of the earth to any of you will be to have some donkeys to move his family to Syria.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name has been distorted into "al-Husayn", and the correction of the name is taken from "Ithaf al-Maharah" (13155). See this narrator's biography in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (13/410).

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this word has been distorted into "al-uns", and its correction has been made from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak".

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (1/156) by the route of Za'idah bin Qudamah, from Ziyad bin 'Ilaqah, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ya'qub bin Sufyan narrated it in "al-Ma'rifah wa al-Tarikh" (2/750) - and by his route Ibn 'Asakir (1/156) - by the route of Qabisah bin 'Uqbah, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Ziyad bin 'Ilaqah, from Thabit bin Qutbah, from Ibn Mas'ud.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Although "Thabit bin Qutbah" is a thiqah narrator, his mention in this chain is a "wahm" (mistake) and is not "mahfuz" (preserved). It appears that this mistake came from Qabisah, because despite his trustworthiness he used to make mistakes and contradict others in the hadith of Sufyan.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A similar report was narrated by 'Abd Allah bin Dirar al-Asadi from his father, from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). It was narrated by Ahmad in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1709), Ya'qub in "al-Ma'rifah" (2/295), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (881), Abu al-Hasan al-Raba'i in "Fada'il al-Sham" (6) and Ibn 'Asakir (1/155).
Grading: About 'Abd Allah bin Dirar, Imam Abu Hatim al-Razi said: "He is not strong."
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This report is also narrated as "marfu'" from 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr bin al-'As; it was narrated by Abu Sa'd al-Sam'ani in "Fada'il al-Sham" (7) and Ibn 'Asakir (1/154).
Grading: Its chain is "da'if" and it is not authentic.
