أخبرنا مُكرَم بن أحمد القاضي، حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل السُّلَمي، حدثنا حَيْوة بن شُريح الحضرمي، حدثنا بقيّة بن الوليد، حدثني يوسف بن أبي كَثير [عن نُوح بن ذَكْوان] (1) عن الحسن عن أنس: أنَّ النبيَّ ﷺ أَكَلَ خَشِنًا، وَلَبِسَ خَشِنًا، لَبِسَ الصُّوف، واحتَذَى المخصوف. قيل للحسن: ما الخَشِنُ؟ قال: غليظُ الشَّعير، ما كان النبيُّ ﷺ يُسِيغُه إِلَّا بِجَرْعةٍ من ماء (2). هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate coarse and rough food and wore rough clothing; he (peace and blessings be upon him) wore woollen garments and put on mended sandals. Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked what "rough food" meant, and he said: "Coarse barley flour, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) could not swallow without the help of a sip of water."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

حدثنا محمد بن صالح بن هانئ حدثنا يحيى بن محمد بن يحيى، حدثنا حفص بن عمر الحَوْضي، حدثنا سلَّام بن أبي مُطِيع، حدثنا معاوية بن قُرَّة، عن مَعقِل بن يَسار قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "يقول ربُّكم ﵎: يا ابنَ آدم، تَفرَّغْ لعبادتي أَملأْ قلبك غِنًى، وأَملأ يديك رزقًا، يا ابنَ آدم، لا تَباعَدْ مِنِّي فأَملأَ قلبَك فقرًا، وأَملأَ يديك شُغلًا" (3). هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'O son of Adam! Devote yourself wholly to My worship, and I will fill your heart with contentment (self-sufficiency) and fill your hands with provision. O son of Adam! Do not distance yourself from Me, or else I will fill your heart with poverty (neediness) and entangle your hands in worldly preoccupations.'"

أخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد بن إسحاق الخُزَاعي بمكة حرسها الله تعالى، حدثنا أبو يحيى بن أبي مَسَرَّة، حدثنا عبد الله بن يزيد المُقرئ، حدثنا موسى بن عُلَي بن رَبَاح، قال: سمعتُ أبي يقول: سمعت عمرو بن العاص يقول، وهو يخطُبُ الناسَ بمصر: ما أبعدَ هَدْيَكم من هَدْي نبيِّكم-ﷺ، أمّا هو فكان أزهدَ الناسِ في الدنيا، وأمّا أنتم فأرغَبُ الناسِ فيها (1). هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that, while addressing the people in a sermon in Egypt, he said: "How far your way is from the way of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)! He (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most abstinent of people with regard to this world, whereas you are the most eager of people for it."
