حدثني محمد بن صالح بن هانئ، حدثنا الحسين بن الفضل البَجَلي، حدثنا سليمان بن حَرْب، حدثنا حمّاد بن زيد، حدثني أبو لُبَابةَ قال: سمعت عائشة تقول: كان رسول الله ﷺ يصوم حتى نقولَ: ما يريد أن يُفطِرَ، ويفطرُ حتى نقولَ: ما يريدُ أن يصومَ، وكان يقرأُ في كلِّ ليلةٍ سورةَ بني إسرائيلَ والزُّمَر (2).

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast (voluntary fasts) so much that we would say he would not stop fasting now, and when he stopped fasting we would say he would not fast now. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Bani Isra'il and Surah al-Zumar every night.
أخبرنا أبو زكريا العَنبَري، حدثنا محمد بن عبد السلام، حدثنا إسحاق، حدثنا أبو أسامة وعَبْدة بن سليمان، عن محمد بن عمرو بن عَلقَمة، عن يحيى بن عبد الرحمن بن حاطب، عن عبد الله بن الزُّبَير، عن الزُّبَير بن العوَّام قال: لما نَزَلَت هذه الآية على رسول الله ﷺ: ﴿إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ مَيِّتُونَ (30) ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عِنْدَ رَبِّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ﴾ [الزمر: 30، 31]، قلت: أيُكرَّرُ علينا ما كان بيننا في الدنيا مع خَواصِّ الذُّنوب؟ قال: "نعم، ليُكرَّرَنَّ ذلك عليكم حتَّى يُؤدّى إلى كلِّ ذي حقٍّ حقُّه"، قال الزُّبير: فوالله إن الأمر لشديدٌ (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, you will die, and indeed, they will die. Then indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, you will dispute before your Lord" [Surah al-Zumar: 30-31], I said: "Will the dealings that took place between us in the world be brought up again, along with the particular sins?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, they will certainly be brought up again before you, until every rightful claimant is given his right." Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah, then the matter is very severe."
أخبرَناه أبو عبد الرحمن بن أبي الوَزِير، حدثنا أبو حاتم الرازي، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله الأنصاري، حدثني محمد بن عمرو اللَّيثي، عن يحيى بن عبد الرحمن بن حاطب، عن عبد الله بن الزُّبير قال: لما نَزَلَت هذه الآية؛ فذكر الحديث، ولم يذكر في إسناده الزُّبيرَ (2). صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed. Then the narrator mentioned the same previous hadith, but he did not mention Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) (his father) in its chain.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

حدثني أبو إسحاق إبراهيم بن إسماعيل القارئ، حدثنا عثمان بن سعيد الدَّارِمي، حدثنا الحسن بن الرَّبيع، حدثنا عبد الله بن إدريس، حدثني محمد بن إسحاق قال: وأخبرني نافع، عن عبد الله بن عمر، قال: كنا نقول ما لمُفتَتِنٍ توبةٌ، وما اللهُ بقابلٍ منه شيئًا، فلمّا قَدِمَ رسولُ الله ﷺ المدينةَ أُنزِلَ فيهم: ﴿يَاعِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ﴾ [الزمر: 53]، والآياتُ التي بعدها. قال عمر: فكتبتُها، فجلستُ على بعيري ثم طُفْتُ المدينةَ (1)، ثم أقامَ رسولُ الله ﷺ بمكة ينتظرُ أن يَأْذَنَ اللهُ له في الهجرة وأصحابِه من المهاجرين، وقد أقام أبو بكر ينتظرُ أن يُؤذَنَ لرسول الله ﷺ فيخرجَ معه (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: We used to say that there is no repentance for one who has fallen into trial (and abandoned the faith), and that Allah will not accept anything from him. But when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, this verse was revealed concerning them: "Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful" [Surah al-Zumar: 53], and the verses after it as well. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I wrote these verses, mounted my camel and went around Madinah (reciting them to the people). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained in Makkah, waiting for Allah Almighty to grant him and his Muhajir companions permission to emigrate, while Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) remained waiting for permission to be given to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he could set out with him.
