It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every one of the people of Hell sees his place in Paradise (that he could have had), and he says: 'If only Allah had guided me!' So it becomes a source of regret for him. And every one of the people of Paradise sees his place in Hell (from which he was saved), and he says: 'Had Allah not guided me (I would have been here)!' So it becomes a cause of gratitude for him." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Lest a soul should say: 'Alas for me over what I neglected in regard to Allah.'" [Surah al-Zumar: 56]
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
