It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "And We placed upon his throne a body" [Surah Sad: 34], that he said: What is meant by it is the devil who sat on his throne for forty days, judging between people. Sayyiduna Sulayman (peace be upon him) did judge between them with the truth, but a wish arose in his heart that the right would turn out to be on the side of her family. Then Allah Almighty revealed to him that he would soon be afflicted with a trial, and he did not know whether this trial would come from the heavens or from the earth.
