I heard al-Hafiz Ali bin Umar say: I heard Abu Bakr bin Ziyad, the jurist of Naysabur, say: I heard Muhammad bin Ali Hamdan al-Warraq say: I asked Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him): Did Amr bin Shu'ayb hear anything from his father? He replied: "He is Amr bin Shu'ayb bin Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Amr, and indeed Amr bin Shu'ayb's hearing from his father Shu'ayb is authentic, and Shu'ayb's hearing from his grandfather Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) is authentically established."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Safwan bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked to borrow some coats of mail from him on the day of the Battle of Hunayn. He asked: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Is this ghasb (taking by force)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather it is a loan whose return is guaranteed."
There is a supporting narration (shahid) for it from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) as well.
