It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and spoke to him about a matter that he wished to keep hidden from Sayyidah Aishah, while Sayyidah Aishah was praying. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah! Hold to the comprehensive words (the comprehensive way of supplicating)" - or he said some similar word. When Sayyidah Aishah finished her prayer, she asked him about that, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka minal-khayri kullihi, 'ajilihi wa ajilihi, ma 'alimtu minhu wa ma lam a'lam, wa a'udhu bika minash-sharri kullihi, 'ajilihi wa ajilihi, ma 'alimtu minhu wa ma lam a'lam, wa as'alukal-jannata wa ma qarraba ilayha min qawlin aw 'amal, wa a'udhu bika minan-nari wa ma qarraba ilayha min qawlin aw 'amal, wa as'aluka khayra ma sa'alaka 'abduka wa rasuluka Muhammad, wa a'udhu bika min sharri mas-ta'adhaka minhu 'abduka wa rasuluka Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), wa as'aluka ma qadayta li min amrin an taj'ala 'aqibatahu rashada' (O Allah, I ask You for every kind of good, whether it comes soon or late, what I know of it and what I do not know; and I seek refuge in You from every kind of evil, whether it comes soon or late, what I know of it and what I do not know. I ask You for Paradise and for the words and deeds that bring one near to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from the words and deeds that bring one near to it. I ask You for the best of what Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge in You from. And I ask You that whatever You decree for me, You make its outcome good and based on right guidance)."
