Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1939

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that among the supplications of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was this one: 'Allahumma amti'ni bi-sam'i wa basari, waj'alhumal-waritha minni, wansurni 'ala man zalamani, wa arini fihi tha'ri' (O Allah, let me benefit from my hearing and my sight until my last breath, and make them my heir (that is, keep them sound until death), help me against the one who has wronged me, and show me my retribution (justice) against him).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: It is sahih on account of supporting reports. Although there is disagreement about al-'Ala' bin 'Amr, the hadith is established through the corroboration of Hammad bin Salamah and other supporting reports. Muhammad bin 'Amr al-Laythi is hasan al-hadith.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Tirmidhi narrated it via the route of Jabir bin Nuh and called it "hasan gharib".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration of 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), coming later at number (1954), is a supporting report for it; its narrators are acceptable, but there is a break (inqita') in it.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (number 1955) is "hasan", and the narration of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) (number 1962) is also, if Allah wills, of "hasan" grade.
Grading: The narration of Sa'd bin Zurarah (may Allah be pleased with him) is with al-Tabarani and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi; if the hearing of Muhammad bin Thawban is established, its chain is "sahih".
Grading: The narration of 'Abdullah bin al-Shikhkhir (may Allah be pleased with him) is with al-Bazzar and al-Diya' al-Maqdisi, and its chain is "hasan" in supporting reports.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In the "Jami'" of Ma'mar bin Rashid there is a "mursal" narration of 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr, all of whose narrators are thiqah.
