Hamzah bin Amr al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I own a riding animal which I work with; I travel on it and hire it out. Sometimes the month of Ramadan comes upon me while I find strength in myself; I am young, and I feel that fasting is easier for me than postponing it so that it becomes a debt upon me. So, O Messenger of Allah, is my fasting greater for my reward, or breaking the fast? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Hamzah! Do whichever of these you wish."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) travelled in Ramadan, and the fast became very hard for one of his Companions, to the point that his mount began to wander aimlessly with him under a tree. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed about him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to break his fast. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a vessel of water, placed it on his hand, and drank in front of the people.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Marr al-Zahran when food was brought. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Come near and eat." They both said: We are fasting. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Work for these two companions of yours and saddle the mounts for them! Come near, both of you, and eat."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Ummah will remain upon my Sunnah as long as it does not wait for the stars to appear before breaking its fast." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting, he would order a man, who would climb onto some elevated place, and when he said that the sun had set, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would break his fast.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this particular wording; they recorded it only with the words: "People will remain in goodness as long as they hasten to break the fast."
