Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Marr al-Zahran when food was brought. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "Come near and eat." They both said: We are fasting. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Work for these two companions of yours and saddle the mounts for them! Come near, both of you, and eat."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its narrators are thiqah, but there is disagreement over whether it is connected or mursal, and al-Nasa'i and al-Daraqutni judged the "mursal" version to be correct. Criticism of a narrator: Al-Awza'i is 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Amr, and Abu Salamah is Ibn 'Abd al-Rahman. Variation in the chain: Ahmad (14/ 8436) and al-Nasa'i (2584) narrated it as "connected" through the chain of Abu Dawud al-Hafari, but al-Nasa'i said that this is a "mistake", because no one corroborated Abu Dawud; the correct view is that it is mursal. Variation in the chain: Al-Nasa'i narrated it as "mursal" through the routes of Muhammad bin Shu'ayb and al-Walid bin Muslim, via the chain of al-Awza'i from Yahya from Abu Salamah. Variation in the chain: 'Ali bin al-Mubarak also narrated it as "mursal" through the chain of Yahya from Abu Salamah. (1762). Reference / Source: On this, see the "'Ilal" of al-Daraqutni (1762). Important point: "Marr al-Zahran": a valley of the Hijaz, 22 kilometres north of Makkah; he (peace and blessings be upon him) halted here on the occasion of the Conquest of Makkah. Important point: His (peace and blessings be upon him) saying "Irhalu li-sahibaykum": that is, (you two who are not fasting) load the camels for these two companions of yours (who have become weak because of fasting). Ibn Hibban says that the point was to indicate their weakness, that they would now need others to serve them.
