It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty created Paradise, He said: 'O Jibril! Go and look at it.' So he went and looked at it, then said: 'No one will hear of it except that he will certainly enter it.' Then Allah surrounded it with disliked things, then said: 'Go and look at it.' He said: 'By Your might! I fear that now no one will be able to enter it.' Then Allah created the Fire (Hell) and said: 'O Jibril! Go and look at it.' So he looked at it and said: 'No one who hears of it will (ever) enter it.' Then Allah surrounded it with desires (lusts of the self) and said: 'Go and look at it.' So he went and looked at it and said: 'O my Lord! By Your might! Now I fear that there will not remain anyone who does not enter it.'"

Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was asked about it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah created Adam, then wiped his back with His right hand and brought forth from it his offspring, and said: 'I have created these for Paradise, and they will do the deeds of the people of Paradise.' Then He wiped his back and brought forth from it (the rest of his) offspring, and said: 'I have created these for the Fire, and they will do the deeds of the people of Hell.'"
