(2). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty created Paradise, He said: 'O Jibril! Go and look at it.' So he went and looked at it, then said: 'No one will hear of it except that he will certainly enter it.' Then Allah surrounded it with disliked things, then said: 'Go and look at it.' He said: 'By Your might! I fear that now no one will be able to enter it.' Then Allah created the Fire (Hell) and said: 'O Jibril! Go and look at it.' So he looked at it and said: 'No one who hears of it will (ever) enter it.' Then Allah surrounded it with desires (lusts of the self) and said: 'Go and look at it.' So he went and looked at it and said: 'O my Lord! By Your might! Now I fear that there will not remain anyone who does not enter it.'"
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the manuscripts the word is distorted here, and "Abd Allah" (the full form) is written instead of "Ubayd Allah" (the diminutive). Important point: The correction is from al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's book "Ithaf al-Maharah" (20615) and from other books containing the narrator's biography, such as "Tarikh Baghdad" (3/569), "Tarikh al-Islam" and "Mizan al-I'tidal".
Note / Clarification: The printed edition adds these words: "He said: So he went and looked at it (Paradise)", and this addition is also established in the other source works.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan", like the previous narration. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at 14/(8648) and Imam Abu Dawud at (4744) through two different routes from Hammad bin Salamah with this chain. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (8398), al-Tirmidhi (2560) and al-Nasa'i (4684) narrated it through various routes from Muhammad bin Amr bin Alqamah. Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan sahih". Reference / Source: Imam al-Bukhari (6487) and Imam Muslim (2823) narrated, with the chain Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Fire is screened by desires, and Paradise is screened by things that are disliked (hardships)".
