Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the three Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them) used to begin the recitation in prayer with "Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin" and they did not mention Bismillah at the beginning or end of the recitation.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon there will be discord and division in my Ummah, and a group will emerge among them who will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats. You will consider your prayers insignificant compared to their prayers, and your fasts insignificant compared to their fasts. They will go out of the religion just as an arrow passes through its prey; just as an arrow never returns to its bow, these people will never return to the religion. They will be the worst of creation. Glad tidings are for the one who kills them or is killed by them. They will call towards the Book of Allah, but they will have nothing to do with it. Whoever fights them will be as close to Allah as possible. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What will be their sign?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Their sign will be shaving their heads.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was walking with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he had draped over himself a Najrani cloak with thick borders. On the way, a Bedouin met us and he pulled the cloak of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so hard that its marks appeared on the blessed neck of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said, "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Give me something from the wealth of Allah that you have." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards him and only smiled, then ordered that something be given to him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When my Lord, the Lord of the worlds, called me on the night of Ascension (Mi'raj), I passed by a group of people whose fingernails were made of copper and they were scratching their faces and chests with them. I asked, "O Jibreel! Who are these people?" He replied, "These are the ones who used to eat the flesh of others (backbite) and point fingers at people."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: War is the name of strategy.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: War is the name of strategy.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him), "What is the matter, I have never seen Mika'il laughing?" He replied, "Since Hell was created, Mika'il has never laughed."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal will emerge from the city of "Yahudiyyah" in Isfahan, and with him will be seventy thousand Jews, upon whom will be green shawls.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a helmet.

Urwah bin Ruwaym narrates that once Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was in Damascus. When he arrived there, Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) requested him to narrate a hadith which he had heard directly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and in which there was no intermediary between him and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He replied, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Faith is Yemeni, likewise up to Lakhm and Juzam.'"

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Ansar: "Soon after me, you will see many people being given preference over you, but you should remain patient until you meet Allah and His Messenger, for I will be waiting for you at my pond." They said, "We will be patient."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have been commanded to fight against the people until they bear witness that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. When they bear witness to this, face our Qiblah, eat our slaughtered animals, and pray as we do, then their lives and wealth become inviolable to us, except by the right of Islam. Their rights will be like those of other Muslims, and their obligations will be like those of other Muslims.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that at the time of Hajjatul Wada, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the Talbiyah for Hajj and Umrah together, I was near the knee of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) camel.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: May Allah keep fresh the person "who hears my words and conveys them to others," because many who carry knowledge are not themselves jurists, and many who carry knowledge convey it to those who are more learned than themselves. There are three things regarding which there should be no deceit in the heart of a Muslim: first, that the deed is done purely for the sake of Allah's pleasure; second, that one wishes well for the rulers; and third, that one remains with the majority of Muslims, because their supplication encompasses everyone.

Zaid bin Aslam (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once we offered the Zuhr prayer with Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him). After the prayer, we set out to inquire about Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) because he had fallen ill. When we reached his house, we greeted him with salam. He asked, "Have you offered the prayer?" We replied in the affirmative. He asked his maid to bring water for ablution and said, "After the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I have not seen anyone whose prayer resembles his more than your Imam." In fact, Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) used to complete the bowing (ruku) and prostration (sajdah), but he would keep the sitting (jalsah) and standing (qiyam) brief.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day he saw a silver ring in the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Seeing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), people also had silver rings made. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took off his ring and threw it away, and the people also took off and threw away their rings.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The vessels of my cistern will be as numerous as the stars in the sky.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not cut off relations with one another, do not harbor hatred, do not turn your backs on each other, and do not be jealous of one another. And O servants of Allah! Be brothers to each other. And it is not permissible for any Muslim to cut off speech with his brother for more than three days, so that when they meet, one turns his face this way and the other that way, and the best of the two is the one who initiates the greeting of peace.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sometimes visit all his pure wives in a single night with only one bath.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The city of Asqalan is one of the brides of the cities. On the Day of Resurrection, seventy thousand people will rise from this city who will have no reckoning, and fifty thousand martyrs will be raised who will be the guests of Allah. There will be rows of martyrs here, whose severed heads will be in their hands and fresh blood will be flowing from their veins, and they will be saying: O Lord! Fulfill for us what You promised us through the tongues of Your Messengers; surely You do not break Your promise. Allah Almighty will say: My servants have spoken the truth; bathe them in the river Bayda. Thus, they will come out of this river clean, pure, and fair, and will roam and enjoy wherever they wish in Paradise.

Benefit: The hadith scholars have declared this hadith as "fabricated."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The supplication made between the call to prayer (Adhan) and the commencement (Iqamah) is not rejected, so make supplication at that time.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring whose stone was Abyssinian.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I also went there. When the broth was brought, it contained gourd (pumpkin). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked gourd very much, so I kept separating it and placing it before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but I did not eat it myself. And from that time, I began to like gourd.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No habitual wine-drinker, disobedient to parents, or one who reminds others of his favors will enter the gardens of Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Zainab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), taking pride over the other noble wives, used to say that Allah married me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the heavens. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) served bread and meat at her wedding feast. Some people, after eating, remained seated in the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up and left. After waiting for a while, he returned, but the people were still sitting. This was very displeasing to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and its signs appeared on his blessed face. On this occasion, the verse of hijab was revealed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his house, when a man asked this question: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! When will the Hour (Day of Judgment) be established? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What preparation have you made for the Hour? He said: I have not prepared many good deeds, but I do love Allah and His Messenger. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You will be with those whom you love, and you will get what you have earned.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the Friday sermon, he would rest his blessed back against a wooden pillar. When the number of people increased, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Make a pulpit for me," so that the voice could reach everyone. Accordingly, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) made a pulpit with two steps. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved from that pillar to the pulpit. Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that he himself heard with his own ears the sound of that trunk crying, like a lost child sobbing and wailing, and it kept crying continuously until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the pulpit and went towards it, embraced it, and then it became silent.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when fragrance was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace be upon him) would not refuse it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to frequently supplicate: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from anxiety, sorrow, incapacity, laziness, miserliness, cowardice, the burden of debts, and the overpowering of men."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to the house of Hazrat Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) and sleep on her bed, and she would not be there. One day, as usual, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and slept on her bed. Someone went and told her that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is sleeping in your house on your bed. So she came home and saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was drenched in sweat, and that sweat was falling onto a piece of leather spread on the bed. She opened her scarf and began to soak up the sweat with it and squeeze it into a bottle. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up startled and said, "Umm Sulaym! What are you doing?" She replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We hope for blessings for our children from this." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have done right."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer at the house of Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) on an old mat, the color of which had changed due to its oldness. I had sprinkled water on it, then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed prostration on it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a Bedouin came and began to urinate in the mosque. The noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) tried to stop him to warn him, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not stop him, leave him." Then after he had finished, water was called for and poured over the urine.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that just as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to lead us in prayer, I do not fall short in leading you in prayer in the same way. The narrator says that I do not see you performing as Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to perform. Sometimes, when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would raise his head from prostration or bowing, he would pause so long between the two that we would begin to think that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had forgotten.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), and the effects of a perfume called "Khaluq" were visible on him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Abdur Rahman! What is this?" He replied, "I have married an Ansari woman in exchange for a date stone's weight of gold." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "May Allah bless you. Then give a wedding feast, even if it is with only one goat."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a man presented himself in the court of the Messenger and asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! When will the Hour (Day of Judgment) be established?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "What preparation have you made for the Hour?" He said, "Nothing except that I love Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You will be with those whom you love." Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after embracing Islam, I never saw the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) as happy about anything as they were about this. We love the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Hazrat Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), even though we do not have the strength to perform deeds like theirs. When we are with them, that will be enough for us.

Humaid says that a person asked Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to apply dye. He replied that old age did not become apparent on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); if I wanted to count the white hairs in the beard of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I could count them. However, Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye his hair with henna and katam, while Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye his hair only with henna.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I had the honor of serving the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for ten years, both during travel and at home. It was not necessary that everything I did was pleasing to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never even said "uff" to me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never said to me, "Why did you do this?" or "Why did you not do this?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have never smelled ambergris, musk, or any other fragrance more pleasant than the scent of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I have never touched silk, brocade, or anything else softer than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Jewish boy used to serve the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Once he fell ill, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to visit him. His father was sitting by his head. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised him to recite the Kalimah. The boy looked at his father, who said, "Obey Abul Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him)." So the boy recited the Kalimah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left from there, he was saying, "All praise is due to Allah who saved him from Hell because of me."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day when alcohol was made unlawful, I was serving drinks to some friends at the house of Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him). A Muslim came and said, "Do you not know that alcohol has been made unlawful?" Upon hearing this, they said to me, "Go outside and see." I went outside and heard the voice of a caller announcing, "O people! Alcohol has been made unlawful." I informed Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said, "Go and pour out all the alcohol that is in your vessel." So I went and poured it away. On this occasion, some people said that Suhail bin Bayda has perished because there was alcohol in his stomach. Upon this, Allah revealed this verse: "There is no sin upon those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed before..." At that time, only nabidh made by mixing unripe and ripe dates was present; this was the alcohol of that time.
