Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Before the emergence of Dajjal, there will be some years of deception, in which the truthful will be considered a liar and the liar will be considered truthful, the trustworthy will be deemed treacherous and the treacherous will be deemed trustworthy, and in those days the "Ruwaibidhah" will speak out excessively. Someone asked, "What is meant by Ruwaibidhah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: The wicked person will interfere in public affairs.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked vinegar very much.

This hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

(Marfu' hadith) Abu Ja'far al-Mada'ini narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn al-'Awwam narrated to us, from Humayd al-Tawil, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, "used to like the thufl." 'Abbad said: He means: the sediment of the broth.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was passing with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through a road in Madinah Munawwarah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a house made of bricks there. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Whose is this?" I replied, "It belongs to so-and-so." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Remember! Every construction other than a mosque will be a burden on a person on the Day of Resurrection." After some time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by there again and did not see the house. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "What happened to that house?" I replied, "Its owner learned of your statement, so he demolished it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him, "May Allah have mercy on him."

Bilal bin Abi Musa says that once Hajjaj wanted to appoint his son as the judge of Basra, so Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Whoever seeks the position of judge is handed over to it, and whoever is given the position of judge forcibly, an angel descends upon him who keeps him on the straight path.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people of Makkah requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to show them a miracle, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) showed them the miracle of the splitting of the moon twice, and upon this the verse was revealed: "The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I frequently heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from anxiety, grief, incapacity, laziness, cowardice, the burden of debts, and the overpowering of people.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Plague is martyrdom for every Muslim.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a person asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about "Kawthar." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that it is the name of a river which my Lord has granted me. Its water will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey, and there will be birds in it with necks like those of camels. Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then those birds will be very healthy." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Umar! Those who eat them will be even healthier than them."

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah be pleased with him), "when he was in Madinah Munawwarah," used to say: I have not seen anyone who performed prayer resembling the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) more than your Imam. Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) did not recite long (portions) in prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said something, he would repeat it three times, and when he went to a people, he would seek permission three times.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked one of his companions (may Allah be pleased with him): "Have you gotten married?" He replied, "No, I do not have anything because of which I could get married." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Do you not have 'Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad'?" He replied, "Why not." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is a quarter of the Qur'an." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Do you not have Surah Zalzalah?" He replied, "Why not." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is a quarter of the Qur'an." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, "Do you not have Ayat al-Kursi?" He replied, "Why not." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is a quarter of the Qur'an." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times, then said, "Then get married."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to the house of Hazrat Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) and sleep on her bed, and she would be present there. One day, as usual, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and slept on her bed. Someone went and told her that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is sleeping in your house on your bed. So she came home and saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was drenched in sweat, and that sweat was falling onto a piece of leather spread on the bed. She opened her scarf and began to soak up the sweat with it and squeeze it into a bottle. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up startled and said, "Umm Sulaim! What are you doing?" She replied, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! We hope for blessings for our children from this." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have done right."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In Paradise, there will be birds as large as the necks of camels, which will graze among the trees. Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then those birds will be very healthy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Those who eat them will be even healthier than them, and Abu Bakr! I hope that you will be among those who eat them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Madinah, everything in Madinah became illuminated, and when he departed from this world, everything in Madinah became dark. And we had not yet finished with the burial when we found the state of our hearts changed.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Four men will be taken out from Hell, and they will be presented before Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty will command that they be sent back to Hell. One of them will turn towards Allah Almighty and say, "O Lord! I had hoped that if You are taking me out of Hell, then You would not return me to it again?" Allah Almighty will say, "Then you will not return to it again."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling fruit before it ripens, grapes before they turn black (into raisins), and wheat before its grain hardens.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the king of Dhi Yazan sent a garment to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which he had acquired in exchange for 33 camels or she-camels.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man presented himself in the court of the Messenger and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! A man loves a people but cannot reach their deeds, so what is the ruling?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A person will be with those whom he loves." Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that after Islam, I have not seen the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) happier about anything than this. We love the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), even though we do not have the strength to do deeds like his; when we are with him, that is enough for us.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I have never smelled ambergris, musk, or any other fragrance more pleasant than the scent of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I have never touched silk, brocade, or anything softer than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). (Thabit says: I asked, O Abu Hamza! Did you see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or did you not hear his voice? Your little servant is present.) I served the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah Munawwarah for ten years; at that time, I was a boy. It is not possible that everything I did was according to someone else's wish, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never even said "uff" to me, nor did he ever say, "Why did you do this?" or "Why did you not do this?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that I was running with the children, and when the children would say, "Muhammad (peace be upon him) has come," I would run so fast that I could see nothing. When the children would say the same words again, I would again start running so fast that I could see nothing, until the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his honorable companion Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived. At that time, we were in some area of Madinah. We sent a villager to the Ansar with this news, and about five hundred Ansari companions (may Allah be pleased with them) set out to welcome the Prophet (peace be upon him). When those people reached the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him), they said, "Both of you enter as obeyed leaders with peace and security." The Prophet (peace be upon him) and Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) kept walking ahead of them, and all the people of Madinah came out, even the women climbed onto the roofs of their houses to see the Prophet (peace be upon him) and began asking each other, "Which one is the Prophet (peace be upon him)?" We had never seen a scene like that day. I also saw the day when the Prophet (peace be upon him) entered Madinah Munawwarah, and I saw the day when he (peace be upon him) departed from this world. I have never seen a scene like those two days.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I and the Hour have been sent like these two fingers together." Saying this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards his index finger and middle finger.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this issue: The People of the Book greet us with Salam, what should we reply to them? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Just say "Wa Alaikum" in response.

Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Mu’awiyah bin Qurrah (may Allah have mercy on him), “Did you hear Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Nu’man bin Muqarrin (may Allah be pleased with him) that the nephew of a people is counted among them?” He replied, “Yes!”

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Ansar, "Is there anyone among you besides yourselves?" They replied, "We have a nephew." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A people's nephew is counted among them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer two horned, black and white rams as sacrifice, and he would mention the name of Allah and say Takbeer. I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would slaughter them with his own hand and would place his foot on their side.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was a man from Banu Najjar who used to be the scribe of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He had also memorized Surah Al-Baqarah and Aal-e-Imran. After some time, that man became an apostate and joined the polytheists. The polytheists praised him greatly and said that he used to write for Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Not long after, Allah broke his neck and he died. People dug a grave for him and buried him, but the next day they saw that the earth had thrown him out. They buried him several times, but each time the earth threw him out, until the people left him lying there.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) had a son named Abu Umair who had a bird with which he used to play. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Abu Umair! What happened to the Nughair (the bird that had died)?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would raise his head from prostration or bowing, and would pause between the two for so long that we would begin to think that perhaps the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had forgotten.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to write a letter to the Romans, the noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted that those people only read sealed letters. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a silver ring made. Its whiteness is still before my eyes. The inscription on it was: "Muhammad Rasul Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)".

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that there were not so many white hairs in the blessed beard of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that would require dyeing, however, Hazrat Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to apply henna and katam dye to his head and beard.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day he saw a silver ring in the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Seeing the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), people also had silver rings made. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took off his ring and threw it away, and the people also took off and threw away their rings.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the Asr prayer at such a time that if someone wanted to go to Awali after the prayer, he would go and return, and still the sun would be high.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever deliberately attributes a false statement to me, he should make his abode in Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A man remains involved in such sins for a long period that if he were to die in that state, he would enter Hell. But then a change occurs in him and he becomes engaged in good deeds. In the same way, do not be amazed at any person until you see on which deed his end occurs, because sometimes a person spends his whole life or a long period in good deeds, so that if he were to die in that state, he would enter Paradise, but then a change occurs in him and he becomes involved in sins.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Such people will come to you whose hearts will be softer than yours." Accordingly, once the Ash'aris came, among whom was Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) as well. When they reached near Madinah Munawwarah, they began to recite these rajaz verses: "Tomorrow we will meet our friends, that is, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions." And these were the first people who established the practice of shaking hands.

Hazrat Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me, "How did Ibn Abi Umrah pass away?" I replied, "Due to the disease of plague." He said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Plague is martyrdom for every Muslim."

Once, Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Walid bin Abdul Malik. He asked him, "What have you heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say about the Day of Judgment?" He replied, "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'You and the Day of Judgment are like these two fingers.'"
