Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep your rows straight, for your rows are like the rows of the angels. Join your shoulders together, fill the gaps in between, be gentle in the hands of your brothers, and do not leave any space for Satan. Whoever joins the row, Allah joins him, and whoever breaks the row, Allah breaks him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allow women to come to the mosques at night in a disheveled state."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons on the day of Jumu'ah and would also sit for a while between the two.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him a silk garment and gave Sayyiduna Usama (may Allah be pleased with him) a linen garment. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me and that cloth was trailing on the ground. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advanced, took hold of my shoulder, and said: "O Ibn Umar! The part of the garment that touches the ground will be in Hell." The narrator says that after that, I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) tying his lower garment up to half of his shin.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said while delivering a sermon: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand means the one who gives, and the lower hand means the one who asks."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not pay the zakat of his wealth, on the Day of Resurrection his wealth will come in the form of a bald snake with two black spots over its eyes. That snake will be made into a collar and hung around his neck, and it will say to him, 'I am your treasure, I am your treasure.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Every intoxicating thing is wine, and every intoxicating thing is forbidden. And whoever drinks wine in this world and dies while he is addicted to it and has not repented from it, he will be deprived of the pure wine in the Hereafter."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every intoxicating thing is wine, and every intoxicating thing is forbidden."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that if a person buys a garment for ten dirhams and one dirham of it is unlawful, then as long as that garment remains on his body, none of his prayers will be accepted. After this, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) put his fingers in his ears and said: "Let these ears become deaf if I did not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to pray on a mat.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the occasions of the two Eids, during travel, a spear would be taken along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which would be planted in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and making it a sutrah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would lead the prayer.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever washes the limbs of wudu once, this is the obligatory (and compulsory) portion of wudu; whoever washes them twice, he will receive double the reward; and whoever washes them three times, this is my wudu and the wudu of the noble Prophets (peace be upon them) before me."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wants to swear an oath, let him swear by the name of Allah." The people of Quraysh used to swear oaths by the names of their forefathers, so he said: "Do not swear oaths by the names of your forefathers."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to walk briskly (raml) in the first three circuits of Tawaf and walk at a normal pace in the remaining four circuits, and while performing Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, he would run in the “Batn al-Masil.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A fire will emerge from Hadramaut (which is a region of Syria) and will drive the people forward." We asked: O Messenger of Allah! What do you command us to do at that time? He said: "Make the land of Syria obligatory upon yourselves (go there)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I have memorized ten rak‘ahs from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): two rak‘ahs before the Zuhr prayer and two after it, two after Maghrib, two after ‘Isha, and two rak‘ahs before the Fajr prayer.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wrongfully takes a piece of land, he will be made to sink with it down to the seventh earth."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he saw the path of the Prophet which was in the direction of the Qiblah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once I observed for 24 or 25 days that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-Kafiroon and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the two rak'ahs (Sunnah) before Fajr and after Maghrib.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever seeks refuge in the name of Allah, grant him refuge; whoever asks you in the name of Allah, give to him; whoever does good to you, repay him; and if you do not find anything with which to repay him, then pray for him so much that you feel you have repaid him. And whoever comes under your protection, grant him protection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am the group of every Muslim."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you is in prayer, Allah is in front of his face, so none of you should clean his nose in front of his face during his prayer, nor to his right side, but he may do so to his left side or under his left foot."

Hatim bin Muslim says that I heard a man from the Quraysh saying that I saw a woman coming to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the plain of Mina, who was wearing a silk shirt. She came and asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about his opinion regarding silk. He replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has prohibited it (for men).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) who says: Once I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) relieving himself facing the Ka'bah while sitting on two unbaked bricks.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give something to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would say, "O Messenger of Allah! There are people more in need than me, give it to them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it, increase your wealth with it, then give charity from it. And remember! If wealth comes to you without your desire and without asking, then take it, otherwise do not pursue it." Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that for this reason, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would not ask anything from anyone, but if someone gave him something, he would not refuse it.

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

Bishr bin Harb says that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about fasting during travel, what do you say about it? He replied, "If I narrate a hadith to you, will you act upon it?" I said, "Yes!" He said, "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave this city, he would shorten the prayer and would not fast until he returned (and would make up the fasts later)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mitharah, qasiyyah, gold rings, and mufaddam. The narrator says that mitharah refers to the skins of predatory animals, qasiyyah refers to garments made of silk that were brought from Egypt, and mufaddam refers to clothes dyed with yellow color.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once we confronted the enemy, and during the battle people became frightened and began to flee; I was among them. We reached Madinah Munawwarah, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out for prayer, we presented ourselves before him and said: O Messenger of Allah! We are those who fled and ran away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather you are those who turn back and attack. I am a group among you."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a slain woman in one of the battles, so he forbade the killing of women and children.

Abdur Rahman bin Samurah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw a severed head and said: What prevents any one of you from becoming like the son of Adam "when someone comes to kill him"? Remember! The murdered will go to Paradise and the killer to Hell.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wants to see the scene of the Day of Resurrection with his own eyes, he should recite Surah Takweer and Surah Infitar, and perhaps Surah Hud was also mentioned."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers in the valley of Batha, spent the night there, and then entered Makkah Mukarramah. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to do the same.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I have traveled with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him); both of them did not pray more than two rak'ahs during travel. We were previously misguided, then Allah granted us guidance through the Prophet (peace be upon him). Now we will follow only him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I have memorized from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ten rak‘ahs apart from the obligatory prayers: two rak‘ahs before the Zuhr prayer and two after it, two rak‘ahs after Maghrib, two rak‘ahs after ‘Isha, and two rak‘ahs before the Fajr prayer.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once a Bedouin asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the night prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his two fingers and said: "Pray two rak‘ahs at a time, and the witr is one rak‘ah in the last part of the night."

Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to perform ramal from the Black Stone to the Black Stone, and he used to inform us that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also did the same, and he would walk at a normal pace between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone so that it would be easier to perform istilam.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) wanted to buy Barirah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to perform prayer. When he returned, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) submitted that those people refused to sell her and said that if the right of wala (allegiance) remains with us, then we will sell her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The right of wala belongs only to the one who sets free."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began the prayer, he would raise his hands to the level of his shoulders, and he would do the same when going into bowing (ruku‘) and when rising from bowing.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would hear the thunder and lightning, he would supplicate «اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ»: "O Allah! Do not destroy us with Your wrath, do not end us with Your punishment, and grant us safety before that."
