When he left, one of us asked him, "You gave your donkey, on which you used to rest, and the turban, which you used to tie on your head, to this Bedouin, whereas he would have been pleased even with a single dirham?" Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the greatest act of goodness is that a person maintains ties with his father's friends after his father has passed away."

At that time, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) was still holding my hand. He turned back with me and stood in front of the woman who was weeping, rebuked her harshly, and said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has forbidden any weeping woman from going with the funeral.

So when we were granted permission and went inside and sat down, he said: Just now, who among you peeked into the house? I admitted it. He said: How did it become lawful for you to peek into my house? I said: When the permission was delayed, I looked, and that too not intentionally. After that, the companions asked him some questions. He said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Islam is built on five things: bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakat, performing Hajj to the House of Allah, and fasting in Ramadan. I said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! What do you say about jihad? He said: Whoever strives, he strives for himself.

At that moment, when I would look at the beautiful face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I would remember this verse of poetry: "That fair-skinned one, whose very being is made a means to supplicate for rain from the clouds, and he is the one who is the refuge of orphans and the protector of widows." It should be noted that this verse was said by Abu Talib in praise of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Then this verse was revealed: "You have no authority in this matter, whether Allah turns to them or punishes them, for they are wrongdoers." Thus, Allah turned towards all of them and they accepted Islam.

Look at this—these people of Iraq come to me and ask about killing a fly, while they killed the grandson of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) without asking anyone, even though I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say about his two grandsons that both of them are my sweet basil from this world."

He took off the clothes he was wearing, because he would not go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in those clothes, and after changing into other clothes, he set out towards the mosque. At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was descending from the pulpit and the people were standing before him. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked the people, "Has the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) given any new command today?" The people informed him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had prohibited nabidh. He asked, "Which nabidh?" The people replied, "The one prepared in gourds and wooden vessels." The narrator says that I asked Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him), "What is the ruling about jarrah?" He said, "What is jarrah?" I said, "Hantamah." He asked, "What is hantamah?" I said, "A clay pot." He said, "There is no prohibition regarding it." I asked, "What is the ruling about muzaffat?" He asked, "What is muzaffat?" I explained, "It is a waterskin that is coated with pitch." He said, "On that day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only forbade (nabidh) from gourds and wooden vessels."

The people replied: "Why not, we bear witness that whoever obeys you, obeys Allah; your obedience is the obedience of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then it is also a part of Allah's obedience that you obey me, and it is a part of my obedience that you obey your leaders. Obey your leaders; if they pray sitting, then you also pray sitting."

If you want to slaughter it, then slaughter it properly.”

He replied, "Nephew! When Allah Almighty sent the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we knew nothing. We will only do as we saw him doing."
