Hadith 5447
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يُصَلِّي عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ حَيْثُ تَوَجَّهَتْ بِهِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayers on his mount, facing whichever direction it was facing.
Hadith 5448
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs in his house after Jumu'ah.
Hadith 5449
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ ، أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ ، فَدَخَلَ الْكَعْبَةَ ، فَبَعَثَ إِلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ : أَيْنَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَ : " صَلَّى بَيْنَ السَّارِيَتَيْنِ بِحِيَالِ الْبَابِ " ، فَجَاءَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، فَرَجَّ الْبَابَ رَجًّا شَدِيدًا ، فَفُتِحَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ لِمُعَاوِيَةَ : أَمَا إِنَّكَ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَعْلَمُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي يَعْلَمُ ، وَلَكِنَّكَ حَسَدْتَنِي ! ! .
Abdullah bin Abi Mulaika narrates that Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) once came to Makkah Mukarramah and entered the House of Allah (the Ka'bah), and he sent a message to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) asking: "In which part of the House did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pray?" He replied: "Directly in front of the door of the Ka'bah, between two pillars." In the meantime, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and knocked loudly on the door. When the door was opened, he said to Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): "You knew that I also knew this matter just as Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did (so why did you ask him about it?) The real issue is that you are jealous of me."
Hadith 5450
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا جِئْتُمْ الْجُمُعَةَ فَاغْتَسِلُوا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you comes for Jumu'ah, he should come after performing ghusl (ritual bath)."
Hadith 5451
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي عَلَى حِمَارٍ أَوْ حِمَارَةٍ ، وَهُوَ مُتَوَجِّهٌ إِلَى خَيْبَرَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praying on a donkey, at that time he (peace be upon him) was going to Khaybar.
Hadith 5452
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُعَمَّرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرَّقِّيُّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ قُرَادٍ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " خُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ ، أَوْ يَدْخُلُ نِصْفُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ ، فَاخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ ، لِأَنَّهَا أَعَمُّ وَأَكْفَى ، أَتُرَوْنَهَا لِلْمُنَقَّيْنَ ؟ ! لَا ، وَلَكِنَّهَا لِلْمُتَلَوِّثِينَ ، الْخَطَّاءُونَ " ، قَالَ زِيَادٌ : أَمَا إِنَّهَا لَحْنٌ ، وَلَكِنْ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنَا الَّذِي حَدَّثَنَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was given the choice between two things: intercession or half of my Ummah entering Paradise, so I chose intercession, because it is more general and more sufficient. Do you think it will be for the pious? No, rather it will be for those who are involved in sins."
Hadith 5453
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "The month is of twenty-nine days."
Hadith 5454
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، وَنَافِعٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أن رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ رَكْعَتَانِ ، فَإِذَا خِفْتُمْ الصُّبْحَ ، فَأَوْتِرُوا بِوَاحِدَةٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The night prayer consists of two rak'ahs at a time. When you fear that dawn is approaching, then add one rak'ah as witr to these two."
Hadith 5455
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يقول : " مَنْ تَرَكَ الْعَصْرَ حَتَّى تَفُوتَهُ ، فَكَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ " ، وقَالَ شَيْبَانُ : يَعْنِي : غُلِبَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever misses the Asr prayer, it is as if his family and wealth have been destroyed."
Hadith 5456
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ أَتَى الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever comes for Jumu'ah should come after performing ghusl (ritual bath)."
Hadith 5457
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لِكُلِّ غَادِرٍ لِوَاءٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، يُقَالُ : هَذِهِ غَدْرَةُ فُلَانٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, a flag will be raised for every deceiver, and it will be announced: This is the deception of so-and-so, son of so-and-so."
Hadith 5458
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَأَى فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ امْرَأَةً مَقْتُولَةً ، فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ ، وَنَهَى عَنْ قَتْلِ النِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a slain woman in one of the battles, so he disapproved of it and forbade the killing of women and children.
Hadith 5459
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " رَجَمَ يَهُودِيًّا وَيَهُودِيَّةً " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) carried out the punishment of stoning on a Jewish man and woman.
Hadith 5460
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبَّادِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ، يَقُولُ : أَمَرْتُ مُسْلِمَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ مَوْلَى نَافِعِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَارِثِ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ وَأَنَا جَالِسٌ بَيْنَهُمَا : مَا سَمِعْتَ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيمَنْ جَرَّ إِزَارَهُ مِنَ الْخُيَلَاءِ شَيْئًا ؟ فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ : " لَا يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
Muhammad bin Abbad, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I said to Muslim bin Yasar, "Ask this question to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, in my presence: What have you heard from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the one who lets his lower garment hang below his ankles out of arrogance?" He replied, "I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Allah Almighty will not look with mercy at such a person on the Day of Resurrection."
Hadith 5461
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَمْزَةَ يَعْنِي السُّكَّرِيَّ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ يَعْنِي الصَّائِغَ ، عَنِ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَ الْوَتْرِ وَالشَّفْعِ بِتَسْلِيمَةٍ ، وَيُسْمِعُنَاهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to separate the Witr and the two rak'ahs by saying salam, and the sound of the salam would reach our ears.
Hadith 5462
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ أَبِي قُرَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ بِلَالٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ كَانَ حَالِفًا ، فَلَا يَحْلِفْ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " ، وَكَانَتْ قُرَيْشٌ تَحْلِفُ بِآبَائِهَا ، فَقَالَ : " لَا تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wants to swear an oath, let him swear by the name of Allah." The people of Quraysh used to swear oaths by the names of their forefathers, so he said: "Do not swear oaths by the names of your forefathers."
Hadith 5463
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ " امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ تَرْعَى عَلَى آلِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ غَنَمًا بِسَلْعٍ ، فَخَافَتْ عَلَى شَاةٍ مِنْهَا الْمَوْتَ ، فَذَبَحَتْهَا بِحَجَرٍ ، فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ للرسول صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِأَكْلِهَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) had a slave girl who used to graze his goats at "Sala’". One of those goats was about to die, so the slave girl took a sharp-edged stone and slaughtered the goat with it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted them to eat it.
Hadith 5464
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، أَنَّ " جَارِيَةً لِكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ كَانَتْ تَرْعَى غَنَمًا لَهُ بِسَلْعٍ ، فَعَرَضَ لِشَاةٍ مِنْهَا ، فَخَافَتْ عَلَيْهَا ، فَأَخَذَتْ لِخَافَةً مِنْ حَجَرٍ ، فَذَبَحَتْهَا بِهَا ، فَسَأَلُوا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِأَكْلِهَا " .
Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I heard a man from Banu Salamah narrating this hadith in the presence of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): Sayyiduna Ka’b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) had a slave girl who used to graze his goats at “Sal’.” One of those goats was about to die, so the slave girl took a sharp-edged stone and slaughtered the goat with it. The people asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about its ruling, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted them to eat it.
Hadith 5465
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَنْهَى أَنْ يُسَافَرَ بِالْمُصْحَفِ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْعَدُوِّ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking the Noble Qur'an along when traveling to the enemy's territory.
Hadith 5466
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ " يَنْهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ حَبَلِ الْحَبَلَةِ ، وَذَاكَ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كَانُوا يَبِيعُونَ ذَلِكَ الْبَيْعَ ، فَنَهَاهُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that in the days of ignorance, people used to sell the offspring of a pregnant camel in exchange for the offspring of another pregnant animal, and by the offspring of a pregnant animal is meant "the one who is still in the mother's womb," that is, its unborn child. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade this.
Hadith 5467
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ تَرَكَ الْعَصْرَ مُتَعَمِّدًا حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ ، فَكَأَنَّمَا وُتِرَ أَهْلَهُ وَمَالَهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever deliberately leaves the Asr prayer, it is as if his family and wealth have been destroyed."
Hadith 5468
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَوَّامُ ، أَخْبَرَنِي حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا تَمْنَعُوا نِسَاءَكُمْ الْمَسَاجِدَ ، وَبُيُوتُهُنَّ خَيْرٌ لَهُنَّ " ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ ابْنٌ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ : بَلَى ، وَاللَّهِ لَنَمْنَعُهُنَّ ! فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : تَسْمَعُنِي أُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَتَقُولُ مَا تَقُولُ ؟ ! .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not prevent your womenfolk from coming to the mosque, but their houses are better for them." Upon hearing this, one of the sons of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "We will indeed prevent them." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, "I am narrating to you the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and you are saying this?"

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَدْرُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ غَدَاةٍ بَعْدَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ ، فَقَالَ : " رَأَيْتُ قُبَيْلَ الْفَجْرِ كَأَنِّي أُعْطِيتُ الْمَقَالِيدَ وَالْمَوَازِينَ ، فَأَمَّا الْمَقَالِيدُ فَهَذِهِ الْمَفَاتِيحُ ، وَأَمَّا الْمَوَازِينُ ، فَهِذه الَّتِي تَزِنُونَ بِهَا ، فَوُضِعْتُ فِي كِفَّةٍ ، وَوُضِعَتْ أُمَّتِي فِي كِفَّةٍ ، فَوُزِنْتُ بِهِمْ ، فَرَجَحْتُ ، ثُمَّ جِيءَ بِأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، فَوُزِنَ بِهِمْ ، فَوَزَنَ ، ثُمَّ جِيءَ بِعُمَرَ ، فَوُزِنَ ، فَوَزَنَ ، ثُمَّ جِيءَ بِعُثْمَانَ ، فَوُزِنَ بِهِمْ ، ثُمَّ رُفِعَتْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us after sunrise and said: "Today, just a little before the Fajr prayer, I saw a dream in which I was given the keys and the scales. By 'keys' is meant the keys, and by 'scales' is meant the balance with which you weigh. Then I was placed in one pan of the scale and my entire Ummah in the other; my side was heavier and my pan tilted down. Then Abu Bakr was brought and weighed, and he too outweighed the entire Ummah. Then Umar was brought and weighed, and his pan also tilted down. Then Uthman was brought, and after weighing him, the scale was lifted."
Hadith 5470
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، أَنْبَأَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : نَادَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ ، وَأَنَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْبَدَوِيِّ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَيْفَ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ ؟ فَقَالَ : " مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَوَاحِدَةً ، وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْغَدَاةِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once a Bedouin asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "At that time, I was between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and that Bedouin." O Messenger of Allah! What do you command us regarding the night prayer? He said: "You should pray in sets of two rak'ahs, and when you fear that morning is near, then add one rak'ah to those two, and perform two rak'ahs before Fajr."
Hadith 5471
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ الْعَوَّامِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا تَمْنَعُوا النِّسَاءَ أَنْ يَخْرُجْنَ إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ ، وَبُيُوتُهُنَّ خَيْرٌ لَهُنَّ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not prevent women of the Ummah from coming to the mosques, but their houses are better for them."
Hadith 5472
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ نَافِعٍ ، وَقَالَ يَزِيدُ مَرَّةً : أِنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ نَافِعٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا نَلْبَسُ إِذَا أَحْرَمْنَا ؟ قَالَ : " لَا تَلْبَسُوا الْقُمُصَ ، وَلَا السَّرَاوِيلَاتِ ، وَلَا الْعَمَائِمَ ، وَلَا الْبَرَانِسَ ، وَلَا الْخِفَافَ ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ رَجُلٌ لَيْسَتْ لَهُ نَعْلَانِ ، فَيَلْبَسَ الْخُفَّيْنِ ، وَيَجْعَلَهُمَا أَسْفَلَ مِنَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ ، وَلَا تَلْبَسُوا شَيْئًا مِنَ الثِّيَابِ مَسَّهُ الزَّعْفَرَانُ وَلَا الْوَرْسُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! When we assume Ihram, which clothes can we wear?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person in Ihram must not wear a shirt, trousers, turban, or leather socks, except if he cannot find sandals. Whoever cannot find sandals should cut the leather socks below the ankles and wear them. Likewise, a cap or any cloth dyed with wars (a kind of grass) or saffron must also not be worn by a person in Ihram."
Hadith 5473
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَبَايَعُوا الثَّمَرَ حَتَّى يَبْدُوَ صَلَاحُهُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not buy or sell fruit until it has fully ripened."
Hadith 5474
(حديث مرفوع) وَأَخْبَرَنَا يَعْنِي يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ أَعْتَقَ نَصِيبًا لَهُ فِي إِنْسَانٍ أَوْ مَمْلُوكٍ ، كُلِّفَ عِتْقَ بَقِيَّتِهِ ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ يُعْتِقُهُ بِهِ ، فَقَدْ جَازَ مَا عَتَقَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever frees his share of a slave, he will be made responsible for freeing the remaining share as well. If he does not possess enough wealth to free the rest, then only the portion he has freed will remain freed."
Hadith 5475
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الَّذِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُلَبِّي بِهِ ، يَقُولُ : " لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ ، وَالْمُلْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ " ، وَذَكَرَ نَافِعٌ : أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَزِيدُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ : لَبَّيْكَ وَالرَّغْبَاءُ إِلَيْكَ وَالْعَمَلُ ، لَبَّيْكَ لَبَّيْكَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was: "Here I am, O Allah! Here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. All praise and all blessings are for You, and the sovereignty is Yours, You have no partner." Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to add to this: "Here I am, all desires and actions are for You, here I am, here I am."
Hadith 5476
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " خَمْسٌ لَا جُنَاحَ فِي قَتْلِ مَنْ قَتَلَ مِنْهُنَّ : الْغُرَابُ ، وَالْفَأْرَةُ ، وَالْحِدَأَةُ ، وَالْكَلْبُ الْعَقُورُ ، وَالْعَقْرَبُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no harm in killing five kinds of animals: the scorpion, the rat, the kite, the crow, and the rabid dog."
Hadith 5477
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسُ حَوْلَهُ ، فَأَسْرَعْتُ لِأَسْمَعَ كَلَامَهُ ، فَتَفَرَّقَ النَّاسُ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَبْلُغَ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً : قَبْلَ أَنْ أَنْتَهِيَ إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَسَأَلْتُ رَجُلًا مِنْهُمْ : مَاذَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : إِنَّهُ " نَهَى عَنِ الْمُزَفَّتِ ، وَالدُّبَّاءِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that I once saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appearing on the pulpit. As soon as I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I quickly entered the mosque and sat down at a place, but before I had the chance to hear anything, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the pulpit. I asked the people what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. The people informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had forbidden making nabidh in dabba’ and muzaffat.
Hadith 5478
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، قَالَ : أَقْبَلْنَا مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ مِنْ مَكَّةَ ، وَنَحْنُ نَسِيرُ مَعَهُ ، وَمَعَهُ حَفْصُ بْنُ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، وَمُسَاحِقُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خِدَاشٍ ، فَغَابَتْ لَنَا الشَّمْسُ ، فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا : الصَّلَاةَ ، فَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ الْآخَرُ : الصَّلَاةَ ، فَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْهُ ، فَقَالَ نَافِعٌ : فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : الصَّلَاةَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " إِذَا عَجِلَ بِهِ السَّيْرُ جَمَعَ مَا بَيْنَ هَاتَيْنِ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ " ، فَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَجْمَعَ بَيْنَهُمَا ، قَالَ : فَسِرْنَا أَمْيَالًا ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : فَحَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ : هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى ، فَقَالَ : سِرْنَا إِلَى قَرِيبٍ مِنْ رُبُعِ اللَّيْلِ ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى .
Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once we were coming from Makkah Mukarramah with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). Hafs bin Asim and Masahq bin Amr were also with him. We kept walking until the sun set. One of them said, “Prayer.” Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) did not say anything to him. (Then another reminded him, but he also did not reply to him. Then I said to him, “Prayer.”) So he said, “I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that when he was in a hurry during travel, he would combine these two prayers. I intend to combine them as well.” So we traveled several miles, then stopped and he prayed. On another occasion, Nafi’ mentioned a quarter mile.
Hadith 5479
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " مَا كُنَّا نَدْعُوهُ إِلَّا زَيْدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَتَّى نَزَلَ الْقُرْآنُ ادْعُوهُمْ لآبَائِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ سورة الأحزاب آية 5 " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that we used to call Sayyiduna Zaid bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) as Zaid bin Muhammad, until this verse of the Noble Qur'an was revealed: "Call them by (the names of) their fathers; that is more just in the sight of Allah."
Hadith 5480
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to pray two rak'ahs in his house after Jumu'ah.
Hadith 5481
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، سَمِعْتُ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَرَأَيْتَ مَا نَعْمَلُ فِيهِ ، أَمْرٌ مُبْتَدَعٌ أَوْ مُبْتَدَأٌ ، أَوْ أَمْرٌ قَدْ فُرِغَ مِنْهُ ؟ قَالَ : " أَمْرٌ قَدْ فُرِغَ مِنْهُ ، فَاعْمَلْ يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، فَإِنَّ كُلًّا مُيَسَّرٌ ، فَأَمَّا مَنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ السَّعَادَةِ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَعْمَلُ لِلسَّعَادَةِ ، وَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّقَاءِ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَعْمَلُ لِلشَّقَاءِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! The deeds that we do, have they already been written or do our actions come first?" He replied, "No! Rather, they have already been written. Therefore, O Ibn Khattab! Continue to act, for whoever has been created for a certain purpose, its means are provided for him and that action is made easy for him. Thus, if he is among the people of happiness, he does the deeds of the happy, and if he is among the wretched, he does the deeds of the wretched."
Hadith 5482
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِذَا رَاحَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once, while delivering a sermon, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you comes for Jumu'ah, he should come after performing ghusl (ritual bath)."
Hadith 5483
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ حُرَيْثٍ ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ أَنَّ الصُّبْحَ يُدْرِكُكَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ " ، قَالَ : فَقِيلَ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ : مَا مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ؟ قَالَ : تُسَلِّمُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The night prayer consists of two rak'ahs at a time. When you fear that dawn is approaching, then add one rak'ah to these two." Someone asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), "What does 'two at a time' mean?" He replied: "It means that you should say salam after every two rak'ahs."
Hadith 5484
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ " ، وَطَبَّقَ شُعْبَةُ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، وَكَسَرَ الْإِبْهَامَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ ، قَالَ عُقْبَةُ : وَأَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ : " وَالشَّهْرُ ثَلَاثُونَ " ، وَطَبَّقَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sometimes the month is such, such, and such," and the third time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) folded his thumb, "and sometimes it is such, such, and such," meaning a complete thirty days.
Hadith 5485
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ ، يَعْنِي لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ ، فَإِنْ ضَعُفَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَوْ عَجَزَ ، فَلَا يُغْلَبَنَّ عَلَى السَّبْعِ الْبَوَاقِي " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights; if you are unable or weak, then do not let the last seven nights overpower you."
Hadith 5486
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنْ نَبِيذِ الْجَرِّ " أَهَلْ نَهَى عَنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : زَعَمُوا ذَلِكَ ، فَقُلْتُ : النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى ؟ فَقَالَ : قَدْ زَعَمُوا ذَلِكَ ، فَقُلْتُ : أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْهُ ؟ فَقَالَ : قَدْ زَعَمُوا ذَلِكَ " ، فَصَرَفَهُ اللَّهُ عَنِّي ، وَكَانَ إِذَا قِيلَ لِأَحَدٍهم أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ ؟ غَضِبَ ، وَهَمَّ يُخَاصِمُهُ .
Thabit Banani, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, whether the use of nabidh (fermented drink) in earthen pots was prohibited. He replied: "That is what they say." I asked, "Who says this?" He replied: "That is what they say." I asked the same question again, and he gave the same answer. Allah saved me from him that day, because when someone would ask him, "Did you really hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" he would become angry and turn his attention to that person.
