Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to the Quba Mosque both on foot and riding.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to come to the Quba Mosque both on foot and riding.

Ali bin Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw me playing during prayer. After finishing the prayer, he forbade me from this and said: "Perform the prayer as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do." I asked, "How did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) use to do it?" He replied: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat in prayer, he would place his right palm on his right thigh, close all the fingers, and point with the finger next to the thumb, and he would place his left palm on his left thigh."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The superiority of prayer performed in congregation over prayer performed alone is twenty-seven degrees."

A man from the family of Khalid bin Asid asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that in the Noble Qur'an we find mention of the prayer of fear and the prayer at home, but we do not find mention of the prayer during travel (even though the prayer is shortened during travel?). He replied that when Allah Almighty sent the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we knew nothing; we will do as we saw him doing.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayers on his mount, regardless of which direction it was facing.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some spit on the direction of the qiblah in the mosque. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and cleaned it, then turned towards the people and said: "When any one of you is in prayer, Allah is in front of his face, so none of you should spit in front of his face during his prayer."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Muhrim is forbidden from wearing clothes dyed with saffron or wars, and he said: 'If the Muhrim does not find shoes, then he should wear socks, but cut them below the ankles.'"

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: "This is the place of Bayda regarding which you attribute something incorrectly to the Prophet (peace be upon him). By Allah! The Prophet (peace be upon him) assumed Ihram only from the mosque of Dhul-Hulaifah (and not from the place of Bayda as you have made famous)."

Ubaid bin Juraij says that once I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), "I see you doing four things which I do not see anyone else among your companions doing." He asked, "What are those things?" I said, "I see that you only touch the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, and do not touch any other corner. I see you wearing shoes made of tanned leather. I see you dyeing your beard. And I see that when you are in Makkah, people begin reciting the Talbiyah as soon as they see the new moon, but you do not recite the Talbiyah until the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah arrives." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "As for touching only the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) touching only these two corners, and he did not touch any other corner. As for wearing shoes made of tanned leather, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself wore such shoes, performed ablution while wearing them, and liked them. As for dyeing the beard, I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dyeing his beard. And as for assuming Ihram, I did not see the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) assuming Ihram until his mount set out with him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed Zakat al-Fitr of one sa’ of dates or one sa’ of barley upon all Muslims, male and female, free and slave.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man was dragging his garment on the ground out of arrogance when suddenly he was swallowed up by the earth, and he will continue to sink in it until the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once a man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and inquired about the night prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The night prayer consists of two rak'ahs at a time, and when you fear that dawn is approaching, then add one rak'ah to these two, and that will suffice as witr for all the prayers you have offered during the night."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the people of Thamud, he said: "Enter the places of the punished nations weeping. If you are not able to weep, then do not go there." Saying this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) covered his face with his sheet, and at that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was mounted on his ride.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O group of women! Give charity in abundance, for I have seen that you form the majority of the inhabitants of Hell. This is because of your frequent cursing and your disobedience to your husbands. I have not seen any deficient in religion and intellect more overwhelming to a wise man than you. A woman asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by deficiency in religion and intellect? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The fact that the testimony of two women is equal to that of one man is a sign of deficiency in intellect, and the inability to pray and fast for several days (during menstruation) is a sign of deficiency in religion.'"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand means the one who gives, and the lower hand means the one who asks."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded that the Sadaqat al-Fitr should be given before going out to the Eid prayer ground.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever swears by other than Allah... the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke harshly regarding this.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the words by which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) most often swore were these: «لا و مقلب القلوب» No, by the Turner of the hearts.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held a horse race and set a specific place and stipulated a condition.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed i'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan. A tent made of palm branches was set up for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his head out from it and said: "Whoever stands to pray is in fact conversing privately with his Lord, so you should know what you are saying in your supplication to your Lord. And do not recite aloud over one another in prayer."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever combines Hajj and Umrah (Qiran), one Tawaf is sufficient for both of them."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: "Sometimes one corner of my garment hangs down, although I try very hard (to keep it up)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are not among those who do this out of arrogance."

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal will camp in the marshy land of "Marqanat." Among those who will go out to him repeatedly, the majority will be women, and the situation will reach such an extent that a man will come to his home to his mother, daughter, sister, and paternal aunt, and, fearing that they might go to the Dajjal, he will tie them up with ropes. Then Allah Almighty will grant the Muslims dominance over the Dajjal, and they will kill him and his followers, to the extent that if a Jew hides under a tree or a stone, that tree or stone will call out to the Muslims, saying: "There is a Jew hiding under me, come and kill him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once I was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking forgiveness one hundred times. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: «اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ أَوْ إِنَّكَ تَوَّابٌ غَفُورٌ» "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, turn towards me. Indeed, You are the Most Accepting of Repentance, Most Merciful, or Most Forgiving."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to us: "Al-Kawthar will be a river in Paradise whose banks will be of gold and its water will flow over pearls. Its water will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade qaza‘ (qaza‘ means that when cutting a child's hair, some hair is cut and some is left).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "Every Muslim is a brother to another Muslim; he does not oppress him nor does he disgrace him." And he used to say: "By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), whenever two people love each other and then separation occurs between them, it is certainly due to the sin of one of them." And he used to say that a Muslim has six rights over his brother: to respond when he sneezes, to visit him when he is ill, to wish well for him in his absence, to greet him when they meet, to accept his invitation, and to attend his funeral when he dies. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a Muslim from severing ties with his brother for more than three days.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Except for Al-Masjid Al-Haram, offering prayer in this mosque of mine is superior to a thousand prayers in other mosques."

Ibn Ubaid, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once Ubaid bin Umair, may Allah be pleased with him, was sitting in a gathering, and Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, was also present there. My father said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "On the Day of Resurrection, the example of a hypocrite will be like that of a goat between two herds; if it goes to one herd, the goats there will drive it away with their horns, and if it goes to the other herd, the goats there will also drive it away with their horns." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "You have made a mistake." The people there began to praise my father, so Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "I also consider your companion as you say, but I too was present in that gathering when the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used the word «غنمين» on that occasion." Ubaid said: "Both are the same." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say it in this way."

Abdullah bin Babi Al-Makki (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I prayed next to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). After finishing the prayer, he struck his hand on my thigh and said: "Shall I not teach you the greeting of prayer (tahiyyat al-salat) as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us?" Saying this, he recited before me the words of tashahhud which are narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a person, "Did you do this act?" He replied, "No. By the One besides whom there is no deity, I did not do this act." At that moment, Jibreel (peace be upon him) came and said, "He did do that act, but due to the blessing of saying «لا اله الا الله», he has been forgiven."

It is narrated marfu‘ from Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that whoever says "In sha Allah" while taking an oath, he has a choice: if he wishes to fulfill his oath, he may do so, and if he wishes to retract from it, he may do so without being sinful.

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Silk clothing is worn by the one who has no share in the Hereafter."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever seeks refuge in the name of Allah, grant him refuge; whoever asks you in the name of Allah, give to him; whoever invites you, accept his invitation; whoever does good to you, repay him; and if you do not find anything with which to repay him, then pray for him so much that you feel you have repaid him."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a gold ring made, and he would turn its stone towards the palm of his hand. The people also had rings made, upon which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw it away, and the people also removed and threw away their rings. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a silver ring made, with which he would seal (letters), but he did not wear it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are invited, then accept it."
