Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had a ring made of gold. The people also had rings made. Upon this, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, threw it away and said, "I will never wear it again." The narrator says that then the people also took off and threw away their rings.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to turn the stone of his ring towards the palm of his hand.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to wear shoes made of dyed leather and would perform ablution in them, and he used to say that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also used to do the same.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If people knew the harm of traveling alone, then no one would travel alone at night."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever keeps a dog that is neither for protection nor a hunting dog, then two qirats will be deducted from his reward every day."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever keeps a dog that is neither for protection nor a hunting dog, then two qirats will be deducted from his reward every day."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the lizard, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I neither eat it nor do I declare it unlawful."

Sa’d bin Ubaidah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I was sitting in a gathering with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) heard a man in another gathering swear by «لا وابي», so he threw pebbles at him and said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to swear like this, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him from this, saying that it is shirk (associating partners with Allah).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that if I walk at a normal pace, I have seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) walking in this manner, and if I walk quickly, I have seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) walking in this manner as well, and I have become extremely old.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you are three people, then two of you should not start whispering to each other, leaving the third one out."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a person says to his brother, 'O disbeliever,' then surely one of them returns as a disbeliever."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person calls someone a disbeliever, then one of the two is certainly a disbeliever."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The tribe of Aslam—may Allah keep it safe; the tribe of Ghifar—may Allah forgive it; and 'Usayyah disobeyed Allah and His Messenger."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The person over whom lamentation is made will continue to be punished because of that lamentation until the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not accept an invitation disobeys Allah and His Messenger."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that your raising of the hands is an innovation; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not extend his hands beyond his chest.

Kathir bin Jumhan says that I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) walking at a normal pace between Safa and Marwah, so I asked him, "Are you walking at a normal pace?" He replied: "If I walk at a normal pace, then I have seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) walking like this as well, and if I walk quickly, then I have seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) walking like that as well, and I have become very old."

Zadhan says that on one occasion, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) called one of his slaves and set him free, and picking up a straw or something similar from the ground, he said: "I will not receive any reward for freeing him, not even equal to this straw. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever slaps his slave, its expiation is that he should set him free."

Zadhan says that on one occasion, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) called one of his slaves and set him free, and picking up a straw or something similar from the ground, he said: "I will not receive any reward for freeing him, not even equal to this straw. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Whoever slaps his slave, its expiation is that he should set him free."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he divorced his wife while she was in her menstrual period. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: Tell him to take his wife back, and when she becomes pure, then in those days of purity he may divorce her.

Abdur Rahman bin Ayman (may Allah have mercy on him) once asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the issue of divorce during menstruation. Abu Az-Zubair was listening to this conversation. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse of Surah Al-Ahzab in this way: "O Prophet! When you people want to divorce your wives, then divorce them at the beginning of their waiting period" (meaning to divorce them in the days of purity, not during menstruation).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he divorced his wife while she was in her "period of menstruation," and he also informed Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about this matter. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) presented himself in the court of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He should keep her with him until she becomes pure from that period, then another period comes and she becomes pure from that as well. Then, if he decides to divorce her, he may divorce her according to the command of Allah, and if he decides to keep her, he may keep her."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! People deceive me in buying and selling." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should say, 'There is no deception in this transaction.'"

Once a person asked Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) about someone who divorces his wife during her menstrual period. He replied that this is not permissible. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) had also divorced his wife during her menstrual period, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to take her back, and thus he took his wife back.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) once stood among us and said: Do not sell the fruit until it ripens, until its ripening becomes clear.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is a tree whose leaves do not fall, and it is like a Muslim. Tell me, which tree is that?" People began to think of various trees in the forest. It occurred to me that it could be the date palm tree. After a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself said, "It is the date palm tree." I mentioned this to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "If you had spoken up at that moment, it would have been more beloved to me than such and such things."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making vows and said: "Vows do not change anything of destiny; rather, through it, wealth is taken out from a miserly person."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on one occasion, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carried out the punishment of stoning on a Jewish man and woman on level ground.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about a matter: If a man gives his wife three divorces, another man marries that woman, the doors are closed, the curtains are drawn, the veil is removed, but before consummation he divorces her—will she become lawful for the first husband? He (the Prophet) said: "No, not until the second husband tastes her honey."

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to raise his hands to the level of his shoulders at the beginning of the prayer, and he would also raise his hands when going into bowing (ruku‘) and after raising his head from bowing, but between the two prostrations the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not raise his hands.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the lizard, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I neither eat it nor do I declare it unlawful."

Abdullah bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I and another person were with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), he called the other man and said: "Both of you should be gentle, the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade that two people whisper to each other leaving out a third person."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take the pledge of allegiance on the condition of listening and obeying, then he would say: "As much as you are able," (that is, as far as possible you will listen and obey).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a person asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about Laylat al-Qadr, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the last seven nights."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to refrain from excessive conversation and complete informality with our wives, fearing that some rulings might be revealed in the Qur'an concerning us. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, then we spoke.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bilal gives the call to prayer during the night, so keep eating and drinking until Ibn Umm Maktum gives the call to prayer."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted two shares for the horse and one share for the rider in the distribution of war booty.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) combined the Maghrib and Isha prayers at Muzdalifah.
