A man from Najran asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about two things: one about raisins and dates, and the other about advance sale (salam) in date palm trees. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that once a man who was drunk was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he had drunk wine made from raisins and dates. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the legal punishment for him and forbade combining the two (raisins and dates in making wine). Also, a man made a salam (advance sale) contract with another for dates from his trees, but that year there was no fruit. When he wanted to take his money back, the other refused. The man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who asked the owner of the trees, "Did your trees not bear fruit?" He said, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then why are you withholding his money?" So he returned his money to him. After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade salam (advance sale) in fruit until it ripens.

Ubaidullah bin Abdullah says that once I went to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked, "Will you tell me something about the illness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) at the time of his death?" She said, "Why not? When the Prophet (peace be upon him) felt heavy (with illness), he asked, 'Have the people prayed?' We said, 'No, O Messenger of Allah! They are waiting for you.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'Put water for me in a tub.' We did so. The Prophet (peace be upon him) bathed, and as he was about to stand up to go, he fainted. When he regained consciousness, he asked the same question, 'Have the people prayed?' We gave the same answer as before, and this happened three times. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the people were sitting in the mosque waiting for the Prophet (peace be upon him) for the Isha prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent a message to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was a very soft-hearted man, so he said, 'O Umar! You lead the people in prayer.' Umar said, 'You are more deserving of it.' Thus, during those days, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer. One day, the Prophet (peace be upon him) felt some relief from his illness, so he came out between two men at the time of the Zuhr prayer, one of whom was Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). When Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) saw the Prophet (peace be upon him), he began to step back. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gestured to him not to step back and instructed the two men who were with him, so they seated the Prophet (peace be upon him) beside Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) continued to stand and pray, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed sitting. Ubaidullah says that after hearing this hadith, I once visited Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). I said to him, 'Shall I narrate to you the hadith that Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) told me regarding the illness of the Prophet (peace be upon him) at the time of his death?' He said, 'Certainly, narrate it.' So I narrated the entire hadith to him. He did not object to any part of it, but he did ask, 'Did Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) tell you the name of the man who was with Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'He was Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). May Allah's mercy be upon him.'"

Bakr says that once I mentioned to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) has narrated to us this hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) assumed ihram for both Hajj and Umrah? Then when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Makkah, he said: "Whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him should make it Umrah."
Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Abdullah and Salim, the sons of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), came to him at a time when Hajjaj bin Yusuf had come to Makkah Mukarramah with the intention of fighting Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him). They said, “We fear that this year there will be fighting among the people and you may be prevented from reaching the Sacred Sanctuary. Would it not be better if you stayed back this year and did not go for Hajj?” Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also set out from Madinah Munawwarah, and the disbelievers of Quraysh came between him and the Sacred Sanctuary. So, if any obstacle comes before me, I will do what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. I make you witnesses that I have made the intention for ‘Umrah. If my way is left open, I will perform ‘Umrah, and if anything comes between me and the Ka‘bah, I will do what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did, and I was with him at that time.” Then he set out, and upon reaching Dhu’l-Hulayfah, he recited the Talbiyah for ‘Umrah. Then he recited this verse: “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example.” After that, he continued on his way, and when he reached the place of Bayda’, he said, “The matter of Hajj and ‘Umrah is the same. I make you witnesses that I have now made the intention for Hajj along with my ‘Umrah.” So he continued on his way, and upon reaching Qudayd, he bought a sacrificial animal, and performed one Tawaf and one Sa‘i for both, and remained in this state until the Day of Sacrifice.

Hadith 5166
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! After entering into the state of Ihram, which clothes can we wear?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You cannot wear a shirt, trousers, turban, or leather socks, except if someone does not find shoes. Whoever does not find shoes should wear leather socks after cutting them below the ankles. Similarly, a cap or any cloth that has been dyed with wars (a type of grass) or saffron should also not be worn by a person in Ihram."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), said: "Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you will be questioned about his flock. Thus, the ruler is responsible for his subjects, and he will be questioned about them. A man is responsible for his household, and he will be questioned about them. A woman is responsible for her husband's house and his children, and she will be questioned about them. A servant is responsible for his master's wealth, and he will be questioned about it. In short, each of you is a shepherd, and each of you will be questioned about his flock."
