It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon during i'tikaf and said: "Whoever among you stands to pray, in reality he is conversing with his Lord, so you should know that you are conversing with your Lord. And do not recite aloud over one another in prayer."

In fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once passed by a grave and said regarding it that at that moment, he is being punished and his family is weeping over him.

Returning in repentance, in prostration, in worship, and returning while praising our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated all the armies alone."

He put his fingers in his ears and left that path, and kept asking me at intervals, “Nafi’! Can you still hear the sound?” If I replied “yes,” he would keep walking, until when I said “no,” he removed his hands from his ears and put his mount back on the path. He then said, “I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do the same when he heard the sound of a shepherd singing and playing music.”
