Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that once all the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were gathered in his presence. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which one of us will meet you first after you?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "The one among you whose hand is the longest." We took a stick and started measuring our hands with it. The hand of Hazrat Sawda bint Zam'a turned out to be the longest. Soon after the passing of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Hazrat Sawda joined him. Later, we realized that by the length of the hand, what was meant was generosity in charity, and she was a woman who loved to give charity.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) woke up from sleep, whether during the night or day, he would certainly use the miswak.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying: I will wait for those among you who will come to me at the Pond of Kawthar. Some people will be prevented from coming to me. I will say, "O Lord! These are my followers." It will be said to me, "You do not know what deeds they did after you; they kept turning back on their heels continuously."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) wished to sleep in a state requiring ghusl, he would perform ablution as for prayer.

Urwah reports that someone asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), "What did the Prophet (peace be upon him) do in his house?" She replied, "He did what any one of you does. The Prophet (peace be upon him) would mend his own sandals and patch his own clothes himself."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him), after performing two rak'ahs before Fajr, would sometimes lie down on his right side.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that at the time of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) passing, his blessed head was between my throat and chest, and when the soul of the Prophet (peace be upon him) departed, there came a fragrance with it which I had never experienced before.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that we set out with the Prophet (peace be upon him), and our intention was only to perform Hajj. The Prophet (peace be upon him) reached Makkah and performed Tawaf of the House of Allah, but did not exit the state of Ihram because he had a sacrificial animal with him. His noble wives and the companions also performed Tawaf and Sa’i, and all those who did not have a sacrificial animal with them exited the state of Ihram. Hazrat Aisha was in her menstrual period. After we had performed our Hajj rituals and reached the place of Hasbah to depart, I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Will your companions return with both Hajj and Umrah, and I will return with only Hajj?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "When we reached Makkah, did you not perform Tawaf of both?" I replied, "No." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Go with your brother to Tan’eem, enter into Ihram for Umrah, perform Umrah, and meet us at such-and-such place." During this time, Hazrat Safiyyah’s menstrual period began. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "These women cut and shave (i.e., delay us), you will force us to stay. Did you not perform Tawaf al-Ziyarah on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah?" She replied, "Why not?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then there is no harm, now depart." Hazrat Aisha says that I met the Prophet (peace be upon him) at night while he was ascending the upper part of Makkah and I was descending, or the Prophet (peace be upon him) was descending and I was ascending.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that once a woman came to the court of the Prophet and said, "O Messenger of Allah! When I become pure (after menstruation), how should I perform ghusl (ritual bath)?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Take a piece of cotton with perfume on it and purify yourself with it." She asked the same question again, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said "Subhan Allah" and turned his face away, then said, "Purify yourself with it." I understood what the Prophet (peace be upon him) meant, so I pulled her towards me and explained to her what the Prophet (peace be upon him) intended.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that sometimes the Prophet (peace be upon him) would fast so much that we would say, "Now the Prophet (peace be upon him) will continue to fast," and sometimes he would leave off fasting so much that we would say, "Now the Prophet (peace be upon him) will continue to leave off fasting." And the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite Surah Bani Isra'il and Surah Az-Zumar every night.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whatever a man uses to make a woman's private parts lawful for himself, such as a dowry or any other item, it becomes the property of that woman. And whatever is given as a gesture of honor to the woman's father, brother, or guardian after the marriage contract, it belongs to them. And a man's daughter or sister is more deserving that, because of her, the man should be honored.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Whoever bathes a deceased person and mentions a matter of trust regarding him, and does not disclose any defect "which became apparent while bathing," then he comes out of his sins as on the day he was born. Then he said: Whoever among you is the closest relative of the deceased should remain near him, provided he knows how (to perform the bathing), and if he does not know, then keep near him the one whom you think possesses a share of trustworthiness and piety.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Five things are among the "fawasiq" which may be killed in the Haram: the scorpion, the rat, the kite, the rabid dog, and the crow.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that some people used to endure great hardship in worship. The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade them, saying: "By Allah, I know Allah more than all of you and I fear Him more than all of you." And he used to say: "Take upon yourselves only as much as you are able to do, for Allah will not tire, but you will tire."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) exerted himself in worship during the last ten days of Ramadan more than at any other time.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When the private part meets the private part, then ghusl becomes obligatory.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that I and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl of janabah from the same vessel of water, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to try to get ahead of me.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to kiss her while he was fasting and used to suck her tongue.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that once a monitor lizard was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) neither ate it nor forbade it. I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Should we not feed this to the poor?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Do not feed them what you do not eat yourselves."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated the length of women's garments to be one handspan. I said, "In that case, their shins will become visible." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then make it a cubit."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that once some meat of charity came to Barirah from somewhere, and she sent it as a gift to the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) was informed that this meat was from charity. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "It was charity for her, but now it has become a gift for us."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once some sounds reached the ears of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "What are these sounds?" People informed him that date palm grafting was taking place. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If these people do not do grafting, perhaps it will be better for them." Consequently, the people did not do grafting that year, due to which the date crop was not good that year. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired about the reason, the companions submitted that, upon your instruction, people did not do grafting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If it is a worldly matter of yours, then you know it better than I do, and if it is a matter of religion, then bring it to me."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) would wake up at night after sleeping, he would use the miswak, perform ablution, and pray eight rak'ahs, sitting and saying salam after every two rak'ahs. Then he would pray five rak'ahs in such a way that he would sit only in the fifth rak'ah and say salam while sitting in it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from using nabidh in vessels called muzaffat, dubba, and hantam.

Jameeh bin Umair Ta’imi says that once I visited Hazrat Aisha in the company of my paternal and maternal aunts. My aunts asked her, "When any of you experienced menstruation, what would you do for the Prophet (ﷺ)?" She replied, "In such a situation, we would tie a wide lower garment, and then we could embrace the Prophet (ﷺ) with our chest and bosom."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to offer four rak'ahs of Duha prayer and would add to it as well.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Miswak is a means of purification of the mouth and the pleasure of the Lord.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that I never saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) fasting in the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the Mu'awwidhat and blow over himself. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill with the illness of his passing, I would hold his blessed hand and recite these words, then pass the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) hand over his body, so that the blessing of his hand would also be included.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that I used to make up my missed fasts of Ramadan only in the month of Sha'ban until the Prophet (peace be upon him) passed away.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that once the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited this verse of the Holy Qur'an: "Allah is He Who has sent down to you the Book; in it are verses that are precise—they are the foundation of the Book—and others are ambiguous. As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow what is ambiguous thereof..." And he said: When you see those who argue about the Qur'anic verses, they are the ones whom Allah has meant, so beware of them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that in the morning we would prepare nabidh for the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a waterskin. We would neither let it become intoxicating nor let it form sediment. In the evening, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) would eat food, he would also drink from it. If any water was left, I would discard it or pour it out and wash the waterskin.

Hazrat Aisha says that Hazrat Umar has become confused in this matter; in fact, the Prophet (peace be upon him) had prohibited that prayer be performed at the time of sunrise or sunset.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that she entered into the state of Ihram for Umrah. When she reached Makkah Mukarramah, before she could perform the Tawaf of the Ka'bah, her "days" (menstruation) began. After entering into Ihram for Hajj, she performed all the rites of Hajj. On the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her that her Tawaf would suffice for both Hajj and Umrah. She refused this, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) sent her to Taneem with her brother Abdur Rahman, and she performed Umrah after Hajj.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) heard the muezzin giving the call to prayer, he would recite: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that (I used to apply the best perfume I had to the Prophet ﷺ and) it is as if that scene is still before my eyes that I saw the shine of musk on the head of the Prophet ﷺ while he was in the state of Ihram.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) was afflicted with the illness of his passing, I placed my hand on the chest of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and made this supplication: "O Lord of the people! Remove this pain, You are the Healer and You are the One who grants cure." And the Prophet (peace be upon him) withdrew his hand from me and himself was supplicating: "Join me with the Highest Companion, join me with the Highest Companion."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that I used to scrape off the traces of semen from the clothes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would then go and lead the prayer in those very clothes.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that you people have made us equal to dogs and donkeys. I remember a time when sometimes the Prophet (peace be upon him) would pray at night and I would be lying down wrapped in a sheet between him and the Qiblah, and I disliked passing in front of him, so I would slip away under the sheet.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha that once I mounted a strong camel and began to strike it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Aisha! Fear Allah and make gentleness obligatory upon yourself, for gentleness beautifies whatever it is found in, and when it is taken away from anything, it makes it ugly and defective."
