Hadith 20325

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَتْ: «سَتَرْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاغْتَسَلَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ، فَبَدَأَ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ صَبَّ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ فَغَسَلَ فَرْجَهُ وَمَا أَصَابَهُ، ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى الْحَائِطِ أَوِ الْأَرْضِ، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ إِلَّا رِجْلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أَفَاضَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ، ثُمَّ نَحَّى قَدَمَيْهِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا»

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "I screened the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ritual bath (ghusl) for major impurity (janabah). First he washed both his hands, then he poured water with his right hand onto his left hand and washed his private part and whatever had got on it, then he struck his hand on the wall or the ground, then he performed ablution (wudu) like the ablution for prayer except for his feet, then he poured water over himself, then he moved his feet aside and washed them."

Hadith 20326

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةُ، قَالَتْ: «أَدْنَيْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غُسْلَهُ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فَغَسَلَ يَدَهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ، أَوْ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ أَدْخَلَ يَدَيْهِ فِي الْإِنَاءِ فَأَفْرَغَ بِهِمَا عَلَى فَرْجِهِ فَغَسَلَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ، ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِشِمَالِهِ الْأَرْضَ فَدَلَكَهَا دَلْكًا شَدِيدًا، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ أَفْرَغَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثَلَاثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِلْءَ كَفَّيْهِ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَ سَائِرَ جَسَدِهِ، ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى عَنْ مَقَامِهِ ذَلِكَ فَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ بِالْمِنْدِيلِ فَرَدَّهُ»

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "I placed water near the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for his ritual bath (ghusl) for major impurity (janabah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his hand twice or three times, then he put both his hands into the vessel and poured from them over his private part and washed it with his left hand, then he struck his left hand on the ground and rubbed it vigorously, then he performed ablution like the ablution for prayer, then he poured three handfuls of water over his head, each a full double handful, then he washed the rest of his body, then he moved away from that spot and washed his feet. Then I brought him a towel, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned it."

Hadith 20327

حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَيُوسُفُ الْقَاضِي، قَالَا: ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ خَالَتِهِ مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَتْ: «وَضَعْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غُسْلًا يَغْتَسِلُ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فَأَكْفَأَ الْإِنَاءَ عَلَى يَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى فَغَسَلَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ، أَوْ ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ صَبَّ عَلَى فَرْجِهِ فَغَسَلَ فَرْجَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ، ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ الْأَرْضَ فَغَسَلَهَا، ثُمَّ مَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ صَبَّ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَجَسَدِهِ، ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى نَاحِيَةً فَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلْتُهُ الْمِنْدِيلَ فَلَمْ يَأْخُذْهُ وَجَعَلَ يَنْفُضُ الْمَاءَ عَنْ جَسَدِهِ»

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "I set out water for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for the ritual bath (ghusl) for major impurity (janabah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) tipped the vessel over his right hand and washed it twice or three times, then he poured water over his private part and washed it with his left hand, then he struck his hand on the ground and washed it, then he rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose and washed his face and hands, then he poured water over his head and body, then he moved to one side and washed his feet. Then I offered him (peace and blessings be upon him) a towel, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not take it and began shaking the water off his body."

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ «اغْتَسَلَ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فَغَسَلَ فَرْجَهُ، ثُمَّ دَلَكَ بِهَا الْحَائِطَ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَهَا، ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ غُسْلِهِ غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ»

It is narrated from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ritual bath (ghusl) for major impurity (janabah): he washed his private part, then rubbed his hand on the wall, then washed it, then performed ablution like the ablution for prayer, and when he had finished his bath he washed his feet.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ جُمْهُورٍ التِّنِّيسِيُّ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ شُجَاعِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا الرَّحِيلُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَتْ: «وَضَعْتُ، أَوْ وُضِعَ، لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غُسْلُهُ فَصَبَّ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ حَتَّى أَنْقَاهَا، ثُمَّ أَفَاضَ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى فَرْجِهِ فَغَسَلَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ وَمَا أَصَابَهُ حَتَّى أَنْقَاهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى الْحَائِطِ عَلَى التُّرَابِ، ثُمَّ غَسَلَهَا حَتَّى أَنْقَاهَا، ثُمَّ تَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ وَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ أَفَاضَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَعَلَى جَسَدِهِ، ثُمَّ تَحَوَّلَ عَنْ مَقَامِهِ فَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ»

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "I set out the water for the bath of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) poured water with his right hand onto his left hand until he had cleaned it thoroughly, then with his right hand he poured water over his private part and washed it, and whatever had got on it, with his left hand until he had cleaned it thoroughly, then he struck his hand on the dust of the wall, then washed it until he had cleaned it, then he rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose and performed ablution like the ablution for prayer, then he poured water over his head and his body, then he moved from his spot and washed his feet."

Hadith 20330

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ نَافِعًا، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ: ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «صَلَاةٌ فِي مَسْجِدِي هَذَا بِأَلْفِ صَلَاةٍ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ إِلَّا مَسْجِدَ الْكَعْبَةِ»

It is narrated from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "One prayer in this mosque of mine is equal to a thousand prayers in any other mosque, except the Mosque of the Ka'bah."

حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «صَلَاةٌ فِيهِ، يَعْنِي مَسْجِدَهُ، أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَلْفُ صَلَاةٍ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ مِنَ الْمَسَاجِدِ إِلَّا مَسْجِدَ الْكَعْبَةِ»

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "One prayer in it, that is, in my mosque, is better than a thousand prayers in the other mosques, except the Mosque of the Ka'bah."

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، وَعَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالُوا: ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَتْ: أَجْنَبْتُ أَنَا وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَاغْتَسَلْتُ فِي جَفْنَةٍ فَفَضَلَتْ فَضْلَةٌ فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاغْتَسَلَ مِنْهَا فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهَا فَضَلَتْ مِنِّي، قَالَ: «لَيْسَ عَلَى الْمَاءِ جَنَابَةٌ»

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I were both in a state of major impurity (janabah). I bathed from a large tub and some water was left over. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and bathed from it. I said: O Messenger of Allah, this is water left over from my use. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Water is not affected by major impurity."

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I used to bathe from a single vessel."

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I used to bathe from a single vessel."

Hadith 20335

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: عِلْمِي وَالَّذِي يَخْطِرُ بِبَالِي أَنَّ أَبَا الشَّعْثَاءِ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ «يَغْتَسِلُ بِفَضْلِ مَيْمُونَةَ»

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to bathe with the water left over by Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her).

Hadith 20336

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي مَيْمُونَةُ، أَنَّ شَاةً مَاتَتْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَلَا دَبَغْتُمْ إِهَابَهَا؟»

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) told me that a sheep died, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not tan its skin?"

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: مَاتَتْ شَاةٌ لِمَيْمُونَةَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَلَا دَبَغْتُمْ، هَلَّا اسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِهَا؟» فَقَالُوا: إِنَّهَا مَيْتَةٌ، قَالَ: «إِنَّ دِبَاغَ الْأَدِيمِ طُهُورِهُ»

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A sheep belonging to Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) died, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not tan its skin? Why did you not make use of it?" They said: It is carrion. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tanning the hide is what purifies it."

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَتْ: مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى شَاةٍ لِمَوْلَاةٍ لَنَا قَدْ أُعْطِيَتْهَا مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ مَيْتَةٍ فَقَالَ: «مَا عَلَى أَهْلِ هَذِهِ لَوْ أَخَذُوا إِهَابَهَا فَدَبَغُوهُ فَانْتَفَعُوا بِهِ؟» ، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهَا مَيْتَةٌ، فَقَالَ: «إِنَّمَا حَرُمَ أَكْلُهَا» . فَقِيلَ لِسُفْيَانَ إِنَّ مَعْمَرًا لَا يَقُولُ فِيهِ «فَدَبَغُوهُ» وَيَقُولُ كَانَ الزُّهْرِيُّ يُنْكِرُ الدِّبَاغَ فَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ: لَكِنِّي حَفِظْتُهُ وَإِنَّمَا أَرَدْنَا مِنْهُ هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةَ الَّتِي نَقَلَهَا غَيْرُهُ «إِنَّمَا حَرُمَ أَكْلُهَا» ، وَكَانَ سُفْيَانُ رُبَّمَا لَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ مَيْمُونَةَ، فَإِذَا وَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ فِيهِ: مَيْمُونَةُ

It is narrated from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a dead sheep belonging to a slave woman of ours, which had been given to her as charity, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What harm would there be for the people of this house if they took its skin, tanned it and made use of it?" They said: O Messenger of Allah, it is carrion. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Only eating it is forbidden."
It was said to Sufyan that Ma'mar does not say "and tanned it" in this narration, and that he says al-Zuhri used to reject (the mention of) tanning. Sufyan said: But I have memorised this word, and what we pointed to is the sentence that others also transmitted: "Only eating it is forbidden." Sufyan would sometimes not mention Maymunah in it, and when he paused over this chain to consider it, he would mention Maymunah in it.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a dead sheep and said: "Why did they not take off its skin, tan it and make use of it?" Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a dead sheep belonging to a slave woman of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "Why did you not make use of its skin?" It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a sheep died, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Its meat has been made forbidden to you, and you have been permitted (to use) its skin."

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a mouse that had fallen into ghee, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it out along with what is around it, throw it away, and eat the rest of your ghee."

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، أَنَّ فَأْرَةً وَقَعَتْ فِي سَمْنٍ فَمَاتَتْ فَسُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «أَلْقُوهَا وَمَا حَوْلَهَا وَكُلُوهُ» . قَالَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ: فَقِيلَ لِسُفْيَانَ فَإِنَّ مَعْمَرًا يُحَدِّثُهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ: مَا سَمِعْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ يُحَدِّثُهُ إِلَّا عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعَتْ مِنْهُ مِرَارًا

Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah narrated that he heard Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrating from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that a mouse fell into ghee and died, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Throw it away along with what is around it, and eat the rest."
Al-Humaydi said: It was said to Sufyan that Ma'mar narrates it from al-Zuhri, from Sa'id, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sufyan said: I have only ever heard al-Zuhri narrate this hadith from Ubaydullah, from Ibn Abbas, from Maymunah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); I heard it from him many times.

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a mouse that falls into ghee, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If it is solid, throw out the mouse and what is around it; and if it is liquid, do not go near it."

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْخُرْقِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِرْدَاسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ، ثنا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ: أَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ خَاثِرُ النَّفْسِ وَأَمْسَى وَهُوَ كَذَلِكَ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا لِي أَرَاكَ خَاثِرًا؟ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يَأْتِيَنِي وَمَا أَخْلَفَنِي قَطُّ» فَنَظَرُوا فَإِذَا جِرْوُ كَلْبٍ تَحْتَ نَضَدٍ لَهُمْ، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِكَ الْجِرْوِ فَأُخْرِجَ وَأَمَرَ بِذَلِكَ الْمَكَانِ فَغُسِلَ بِالْمَاءِ فَجَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ، فَقَالَ: لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّكَ وَعَدْتَنِي أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي وَمَا أَخْلَفْتَنِي قَطُّ» قَالَ: أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلَا صُورَةٌ؟

Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rose in the morning feeling downcast and remained in that state until the evening. I said: O Messenger of Allah, why do I see you downcast? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril promised me that he would come to me, and he has never once broken a promise to me." They looked, and there was a puppy under some of their belongings. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the puppy be taken out, and he ordered that the place be washed with water. Then Jibril came, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You promised me that you would come to me, and you have never broken a promise to me." He said: Do you not know that we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image?

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ كَامِلٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ بْنُ السَّبَّاقِ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَتْنِي مَيْمُونَةُ، زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصْبَحَ يَوْمًا وَاجِمًا قَالَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ: فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدِ اسْتَنْكَرْتُ هَيْأَتَكَ مُنْذُ الْيَوْمِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ كَانَ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يَلْقَانِي اللَّيْلَةَ فَلَمْ يَلْقَنِي أَمَ وَاللهِ مَا أَخْلَفَنِي» ، قَالَتْ: فَظَلَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَهُ ذَاكَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِهِ جِرْوُ كَلْبٍ تَحْتَ بِسَاطٍ لَنَا، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَأُخْرِجَ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ مَاءً فَنَضَحَ بِهِ مَكَانَهُ، فَلَمَّا أَمْسَى لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «قَدْ كُنْتَ وَعَدْتَنِي أَنْ تَلْقَانِي الْبَارِحَةَ» ، قَالَ: أَجَلْ وَلَكِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلَا صُورَةٌ، وَأَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَأَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ حَتَّى أَنَّهُ لَيَأْمُرُ بِقَتْلِ كَلْبِ الْحَائِطِ الْكَبِيرِ، وَيَتْرُكُ كَلْبَ الْحَائِطِ الصَّغِيرِ

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rose one day in a downcast state. Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, today your state seems strange to me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril promised me that he would meet me tonight, but he did not meet me, and yet, by Allah, he has never broken a promise to me." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained in that state that day. Then it occurred to him (peace and blessings be upon him) that there was a puppy under one of our carpets, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that it be taken out. Then he took water in his hand and sprinkled it on that place. When evening came, Jibril met him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You promised me that you would meet me last night." He said: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image. That same day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that dogs be killed, to the extent that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would order the killing of the dog of a large garden and leave the dog of a small garden.

حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ السَّبَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَتْ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا خَاثِرًا فَقُلْتُ: مَا لِي أَرَاكَ خَاثِرًا؟ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ وَعَدَنِي فَمَا أَخْلَفَنِي» فَظَلَّ يَوْمَهُ كَذَلِكَ وَلَيْلَتَهُ وَمَعِي كَلْبٌ تَحْتَ نَضَدٍ لَنَا، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ مَاءً فَنَضَحَ بِهِ مَكَانَهُ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ: إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ صُورَةٌ وَلَا كَلْبٌ، قَالَتْ: وَكَانَ يُكَلَّمُ فِي كَلْبِ الْحَائِطِ الصَّغِيرِ فَمَا يَأْذَنُ فِيهِ

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out one day in a downcast state, and I said: Why do I see you downcast? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril made me a promise (to come), and he has never broken a promise to me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) remained in that state that day and that night. There was a dog with me under some of our belongings, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that it be taken out. Then he took water in his hand and sprinkled it on that place. Then Jibril came and said: We do not enter a house in which there is an image or a dog. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) was spoken to about the dog of a small garden, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not give permission for it.
