The description of the Fire and its people, may Allah protect us from it

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I entered Paradise and saw that most of its inhabitants are the poor and destitute, and when I looked into Hell, I found that most of its people are the wealthy and women. I also saw three people being punished there: first, a tall woman of the tribe of Himyar who had tied up a cat of hers and kept it confined; she neither fed it, nor gave it water, nor left it free to eat the insects and creatures of the earth and save itself, so (now, as a punishment) the cat was tearing at her body from the front and the back. Second, that man of Banu Da'da' who used to steal the belongings of the pilgrims with his hooked staff, and if his theft was discovered, he would say (excusing himself): 'It just got caught on my staff by accident.' And third, the man who had stolen the two she-camels of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (designated for sacrifice)."
This chain is hasan (good).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a stone were thrown down from the edge of Hell, it would keep falling for seventy years before settling in its depth (bottom)."
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah, Imam Abu Ya'la (through Uthman bin Abi Shaybah) and Imam al-Bazzar (through Yusuf bin Musa) recorded this hadith, both of these teachers narrating it from Jarir; and Imam Ibn Hibban declared this hadith sahih (authentic) through this same chain of Jarir.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If there were a hundred thousand people or even more in this mosque, and among them were a single man from the people of Hell, and he breathed out (because of the intensity of the heat) and the heat of his breath reached them, it would burn the whole mosque and everyone in it to ashes."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it through this same route, and all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When Allah Almighty gathers all people on a single bare, level plain on the Day of Resurrection, the Fire of Hell will be brought in such a state that one part of it will be mounting over another (that is, it will come surging with extreme fury), and its appointed guardian angels will be holding it back." (The complete hadith is reported in this way.)
This narration has already passed in detail earlier in the Book of the Resurrection (the chapter on being raised again on the Day of Resurrection).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of an extremely loud and terrifying crash, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Jibril! What is this sound?" He said: "This is the stone that was thrown down from the edge of Hell seventy years ago; only now has it reached its fathomless depth (and this is the sound of its fall)."
The chain of this hadith contains Yazid al-Raqashi, a weak narrator; however, the basis of this incident is established in Sahih Muslim (2844) from the narration of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), in which it is stated explicitly that the stone fell into the depth of Hell.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a stone equal in size to seven pregnant she-camels, together with their fat and the young in their wombs (extremely heavy and massive), were thrown into Hell, it would keep falling in it for seventy years, and still it would not reach its depth (bottom)."
The chain of this narration contains the narrator Yazid al-Raqashi, who is weak; however, the meaning of falling for seventy years with regard to the depth of Hell is also established by other authentic hadith.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day we were in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we saw that he (peace and blessings be upon him) appeared extremely grieved and troubled. One of us said: "O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be ransomed for you, what is the matter that we see you so sorrowful?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I heard the sound of such a loud crash that I had never heard so terrifying a sound like it before. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) came to me and I asked him about this sound, and he told me: This was a piece of rock that was thrown into Hell seventy years ago, and today it has reached its final resting place in its fathomless depth and come to rest."
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) stated on oath: "By the Most Holy Being who took the blessed soul of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! After that day we never saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) laughing (fully) until we committed him (peace and blessings be upon him) to the earth."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Fire of Hell complained to its Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, saying: O my Lord! One part of me has devoured another (that is, because of the intensity of the heat one part has overpowered another). So Allah Almighty permitted it to take two breaths: one breath in the winter and one breath in the summer. So the most intense heat that you feel is because of the heat of Hell, and the most intense cold that you experience is because of the zamharir (the extremely cold part) of Hell."
Musnad Abi Ya'la: 4600. Although the narrator Ziyad al-Numayri in the chain of this hadith is weak, the basis of this hadith is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari (537) and Sahih Muslim (617) from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), which is a decisive witness to the soundness of its meaning and content.
