وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ الرَّقَاشِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا دَوِيًّا ، فَقَالَ : يَا جِبْرِيلُ مَا هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : أُلْقِيَ حَجَرٌ مِنْ شَفِيرِ جَهَنَّمَ مُنْذُ سَبْعِينَ خَرِيفًا ، الْآنَ اسْتَقَرَّ فِي قَعْرِهَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the sound of an extremely loud and terrifying crash, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Jibril! What is this sound?" He said: "This is the stone that was thrown down from the edge of Hell seventy years ago; only now has it reached its fathomless depth (and this is the sound of its fall)."
The chain of this hadith contains Yazid al-Raqashi, a weak narrator; however, the basis of this incident is established in Sahih Muslim (2844) from the narration of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), in which it is stated explicitly that the stone fell into the depth of Hell.
