Ruqyah

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "There is no ruqyah except for that harm concerning which Sulayman (peace be upon him) took a covenant."
This hadith is hasan (good) and mawquf (stopping at the Companion).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) that he related: "I once fell ill, so people carried me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) spent the night performing ruqyah over me with the Noble Qur'an, and blowing over me while reciting (the words of the Qur'an)."
This hadith is da'if al-isnad (with a weak chain).

It is narrated from Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him): "Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) suffered some physical pain or illness, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would blow into both his hands (while reciting ruqyah), then wipe them both over his blessed face."
Imam Musaddad recorded it, and its chain is mursal sahih (authentic but with the Companion omitted).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These words are a cure for every illness: 'A'udhu bi kalimatillahi al-tammah, wa asma'ihi kulliha 'ammah, min sharri al-sammati wa al-hammah, wa sharri al-'ayni al-lammah, wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad, wa min sharri ibni qatarata wa ma walad' (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah Almighty and in all His blessed names, from the evil of every venomous creature and harmful insect, and from the evil of every evil eye that strikes (a person), and from the evil of the envier when he envies [Surah al-Falaq: 5], and from the evil of the small venomous snake and its offspring)." (He (peace and blessings be upon him) further said:) "Thirty-three angels came before their Lord and submitted that illness and pain had spread in their land. (At this) he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take some of the soil of your land and rub it on your foreheads; this is the ruqyah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Whoever takes any gift or fee for it, or conceals it from anyone (in need), will never succeed."
Imam Abu Ya'la and Imam al-Bazzar recorded it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he recited some verses into the ear of an afflicted person, and he recovered. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What did you recite into his ear?" He submitted: I recited from "Did you then think that We created you without purpose" to the end of the surah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a man with complete certainty were to recite these verses over a mountain, it too would move from its place."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he related: In the time of Ignorance I used to perform ruqyah for the fever that comes every other day. After Islam came, I mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Present those words to me." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ruqyah with them; there is no harm in it." Sayyiduna Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! Had he (peace and blessings be upon him) not permitted it, I would never have performed ruqyah on any person with it.
Note: In this chain Ibn Ishaq narrated from Ubadah bin al-Walid with «'an» (from); there is no explicit statement of hearing.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him), through a trustworthy narrator, that he visited a sick man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people present said certain words, whereupon he corrected them and said: "Do not say that; rather, say the words that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say when visiting a sick person: 'Allahumma adhhib 'anhu ma yajid, wa ajirhu fima ibtalaytah' (O Allah, remove from him the pain and distress that he feels, and reward him for the trial with which You have afflicted him)."
Musaddad recorded it in his Musnad; its chain contains an unnamed narrator who is called "al-thiqah" (the trustworthy one).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I fell ill, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ruqyah over me, seeking Allah's protection for me. So one day he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited protection (ruqyah) over me with these words: 'Bismillahi al-Rahmani al-Rahim, u'idhuka billahi al-ahadi al-samad, alladhi lam yalid wa lam yulad, wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad, min sharri ma tajid' (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. I place you in the protection of Allah, the One, the Self-Sufficient, who begets not, nor was He begotten, and there is none comparable to Him [Surah al-Ikhlas: 3-4]; (I place you in His protection) from the evil of the illness and pain that you feel (in your body)). Then when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up straight (after the ruqyah), he said: "O Uthman! Seek Allah's protection with these words, for you will never have sought protection with anything like them."
Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded this hadith in his Musnad. In its chain is Hafs bin Sulayman who, although an imam in the science of Qur'anic recitation, has been declared da'if (weak) in the science of hadith.
