وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ لَهِيعَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ : إِنَّهُ قَرَأَ فِي أُذُنِ مُبْتَلًى فَأَفَاقَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا قَرَأْتَ فِي أُذُنِهِ ؟ " قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ : أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ آخِرِ السُّورَةِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مُوقِنًا قَرَأَ بِهَا عَلَى جَبَلٍ لَزَالَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he recited some verses into the ear of an afflicted person, and he recovered. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What did you recite into his ear?" He submitted: I recited from "Did you then think that We created you without purpose" to the end of the surah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a man with complete certainty were to recite these verses over a mountain, it too would move from its place."
