Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, on a Friday, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found him absent. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, he came to Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Mu'adh! What is the reason I did not see you today?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah! I owe a Jew one uqiyah; when I set out to come to you, he held me back." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Mu'adh! Shall I not teach you words such that, when you supplicate with them, then even if you owed a debt as large as Sabir, Allah Almighty would have it paid off on your behalf?"
The narrator says: Sabir is the name of a mountain in Yemen. (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "O Mu'adh! When you supplicate to Allah Almighty, recite this:
'Allahumma malik al-mulk, tu'ti al-mulka man tasha', wa tanzi'u al-mulka mimman tasha', wa tu'izzu man tasha', wa tudhillu man tasha', biyadika al-khayr, innaka ala kulli shay'in qadir, tuliju al-layla fi al-nahar, wa tuliju al-nahara fi al-layl, wa tukhriju al-hayya min al-mayyit, wa tukhriju al-mayyita min al-hayy, wa tarzuqu man tasha'u bighayri hisab, Rahman al-dunya wal-akhirah wa Rahimuhuma, tu'ti minhuma man tasha', wa tamna'u man tasha', irhamni rahmatan tughnini biha an rahmati man siwak'
(O Allah, Owner of sovereignty! You give sovereignty to whom You will and take sovereignty away from whom You will; You honour whom You will and abase whom You will. In Your hand is all good; indeed, You have power over all things. You cause the night to enter the day and the day to enter the night; You bring the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living; and You provide for whom You will without measure. O Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter, and the Bestower of mercy in both! You give of them to whom You will and withhold from whom You will. Have mercy on me with a mercy by which You make me free of need of the mercy of everyone besides You.)"

In one narration, these words appear: "Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man had a claim due from me, and I was apprehensive about him, so I stayed at home for two days without going out. Then, when I went out and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: 'O Mu'adh! Where were you?' I replied: 'A man had a claim due from me, and I was so apprehensive about him that I felt ashamed and did not like him to meet me.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Shall I not direct you to some words such that, if you owed a debt as large as mountains, Allah Almighty would have it paid off?' I replied: 'Yes!' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Recite this: 'O Allah! O Owner of sovereignty!'" After this, the narrator reported the narration in brief as before, and added these words at its end:
'Allahumma aghnini min al-faqr, waqdi anni al-dayn, wa tawaffani fi ibadatik, wa jihadin fi sabilik'
(O Allah! Free me from poverty, have my debt paid off, and grant me death while I am in Your worship and in jihad in Your path.)
Al-Tabarani recorded all of these narrations. The first narration contains a narrator, Nasr bin Marzuq, whom I do not know, and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that Sa'id bin al-Musayyib did not hear from Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him). The second narration contains a narrator whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): "Shall I not teach you a supplication such that, if you make it, then even if you owed a debt as large as Mount Uhud, Allah Almighty would have it paid off on your behalf? O Mu'adh! Recite this:
'Allahumma malik al-mulk, tu'ti al-mulka man tasha', wa tanzi'u al-mulka mimman tasha', wa tu'izzu man tasha', wa tudhillu man tasha', biyadika al-khayr, innaka ala kulli shay'in qadir, Rahman al-dunya wal-akhirah tu'tihima man tasha', wa tamna'u minhuma man tasha', irhamni rahmatan tughnini biha an rahmati man siwak'

In Your hand is all good, and indeed You have power over all things. O Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter! You give both of them (that is, this world and the Hereafter) to whom You will, and You withhold both of them from whom You will. Have mercy on me with a mercy by which You make me free of need of everyone besides You.)"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: My father said to me: "Shall I not teach you a supplication which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me? He said: 'Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him) taught it to his disciples. If you owed a debt like Mount Uhud and then recited this supplication, Allah Almighty would have it paid off on your behalf.'" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I replied: "Yes!" He said: "Recite this:
'Allahumma farij al-hamm, wa kashif al-karb, mujib da'wat al-mudtarr, Rahman al-dunya wa ilah al-akhirah, anta Rahmani farhamni birahmatin tughnini biha amman siwak'

Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, al-Hakam bin Abdullah al-Ayli, who is matruk (abandoned).
