Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever any person is afflicted by worry or grief and he recites:
'Allahumma inni abduka, wabnu abdika, wabnu amatik, nasiyati biyadik, madin fiyya hukmuk, adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi ilm al-ghaybi indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi'
(O Allah! I am Your servant, the son of Your servant and the son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand; Your judgement concerning me is carried out; Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that is Yours, which You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or which belongs to the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, (I ask You by every such name) that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the removal of my grief and the departure of my worry.)"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: "Then Allah Almighty will remove his worry and grant him relief in place of his grief."
The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! It is fitting for us to learn these words?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! Whoever hears of them, it is fitting for him to learn them."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it; however, he reported the words "my sorrow" in place of "my worry". The narrators of Ahmad and Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abu Salamah al-Juhani, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy).
