Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) with a bowl which had meat in it. When I came to his house, Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was sitting there. I have never seen a more beautiful couple than the two of them. Sometimes I would look at Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) and sometimes I would look at Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). When I returned, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: Did you go to them? I replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Have you ever seen a more beautiful couple than the two of them? I said: No, O Messenger of Allah! I too would sometimes look at Sayyidah Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her) and sometimes at Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and he said: This was before the command of hijab was revealed. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
