Ata bin Abi Rabah narrates: A man began praising Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), so he said: "Throw dust on his face, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When you see those who praise excessively, throw dust in their faces.'"
Imam Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Tariq bin Shihab narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "A man goes out with his religion, and when he returns, nothing of his religion is with him. He goes to a man who has no power to harm or benefit him or even himself, yet he swears to him by the name of Allah, saying: 'It is you, truly you!' Then he returns having had his need fulfilled, in a state where Allah Almighty is displeased with him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with various chains, the narrators of one of which are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna al-Aswad bin Sari' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I have praised my Lord with various words of praise, and I have praised you too." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for your Lord, He loves praise. Present the words with which you have praised your Lord." The narrator says: I began reciting poetry to him. Then another man came and asked permission to enter; he was a tall man of brown complexion, with hair gone from the front of his head, big-built and of strong body. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made me fall silent because of him. Here the narrator Abu Salamah demonstrated how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had silenced him: the way it is done with a cat. The narrator says: The man came in, talked for a while, and then left. Then I began reciting poetry to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again. After a while that man came back, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made me fall silent for him again; the narrator also described how he silenced him that time. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Who is this man for whom you made me fall silent?" He said: "This is a man who does not love falsehood; this is Umar bin al-Khattab."
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar with various chains. The narrators of the hadith recorded by Imam Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "There is no one more possessed of ghayrah (protective jealousy) than Allah Almighty, and that is why He has made indecencies unlawful. There is no one to whom praise is more beloved than Allah Almighty, and that is why He has praised Himself. There is no one to whom excuse is more beloved than Allah Almighty, and that is why He has sent excuses (warnings) to His creation. And there is no one to whom praise (hamd) is more beloved than Allah Almighty, and that is why He has praised Himself." Allamah al-Haythami says: I say: in the Sahih only these words are mentioned: "There is no one more possessed of ghayrah than Allah Almighty, and there is no one to whom praise is more beloved than Allah Almighty."
