عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ قَالَ : كَانَ رَجُلٌ يَمْدَحُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ : هَكَذَا يَحْثُو فِي وَجْهِهِ التُّرَابَ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْمَدَّاحِينَ فَاحْثُوا فِي وُجُوهِهِمُ التُّرَابَ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ وَالْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Ata bin Abi Rabah narrates: A man began praising Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), so he said: "Throw dust on his face, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When you see those who praise excessively, throw dust in their faces.'"
Imam Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
