Sayyiduna Jariyah bin Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me something, and keep it brief for me, so that I may retain it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not become angry." The man repeated his request several times, and each time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him the same thing: "Do not become angry."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, except that he gave this wording:
This is narrated by al-Ahnaf from his paternal uncle, and his paternal uncle is Sayyiduna Jariyah bin Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me something through which Allah Almighty will benefit me." Then the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. Al-Tabarani recorded this whole narration in the same way in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and in one narration of his the wording is: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jariyah bin Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that his paternal uncle came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); then the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. In one narration the wording is: It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jariyah bin Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him), from his paternal cousin, who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah." The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, except that he stated it as narrated from Sayyiduna Jariyah bin Qudamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: My father's paternal uncle informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said; then the narrator mentioned the hadith as before. The narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
