بَابُ تَوْقِيرِ الْكَبِيرِ وَرَحْمَةِ الصَّغِيرِ

عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَيْسَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي مَنْ لَمْ يُجِلَّ كَبِيرَنَا ، وَيَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا ، وَيَعْرِفْ لِعَالِمِنَا حَقَّهُ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .

Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not of my Ummah who does not honour our elder, does not show mercy to our young, and does not recognise the right of our scholar."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يُوَقِّرِ الْكَبِيرَ ، وَيَرْحَمِ الصَّغِيرَ ، وَيَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ ، وَيَنْهَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالْبَزَّارُ بِنَحْوِهِ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِاخْتِصَارٍ وَزَادَ : " وَيَعْرِفْ لَنَا حَقَّنَا " . وَفِي أَحَدِ إِسْنَادَيِ الْبَزَّارِ قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، وَثَّقَهُ شُعْبَةُ وَالثَّوْرِيُّ وَضَعَّفَهُ غَيْرُهُمَا ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ . وَفِي إِسْنَادِ أَحْمَدَ لَيْثُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ وَهُوَ مُدَلِّسٌ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالْبَزَّارُ بِنَحْوِهِ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِاخْتِصَارٍ وَزَادَ : " وَيَعْرِفْ لَنَا حَقَّنَا " . وَفِي أَحَدِ إِسْنَادَيِ الْبَزَّارِ قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، وَثَّقَهُ شُعْبَةُ وَالثَّوْرِيُّ وَضَعَّفَهُ غَيْرُهُمَا ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ . وَفِي إِسْنَادِ أَحْمَدَ لَيْثُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ وَهُوَ مُدَلِّسٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates, as a marfu' hadith traced to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not of us who does not honour our elder, does not show mercy to the young, does not enjoin what is right and does not forbid what is wrong."
Ahmad recorded it, al-Bazzar recorded something similar, and al-Tabarani recorded it in abridged form, adding these words: "and does not recognise our right for us." One of al-Bazzar's two chains contains Qays bin al-Rabi', whom Shu'bah and al-Thawri declared thiqah (trustworthy), while others declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy). Ahmad's chain contains Layth bin Abi Sulaym, who is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain).
Ahmad recorded it, al-Bazzar recorded something similar, and al-Tabarani recorded it in abridged form, adding these words: "and does not recognise our right for us." وَفِي إِسْنَادِ أَبِي يَعْلَى يُوسُفُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ ، وَفِي إِسْنَادِ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ضَعِيفٍ .
رَوَاهُ أَبُو يَعْلَى وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ وَزَادَ : " وَيُؤَاخِي فِينَا وَيَزُورُ " .
وَفِي إِسْنَادِ أَبِي يَعْلَى يُوسُفُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ وَهُوَ مَتْرُوكٌ ، وَفِي إِسْنَادِ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ ضَعِيفٍ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not of us who does not honour our elder and does not show kindness to our young."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, adding these words: "and does not form brotherhood for our sake and does not visit." Abu Ya'la's chain contains Yusuf bin Atiyyah, who is matruk (abandoned), and al-Tabarani's chain contains more than one da'if (weak) narrator.

رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَالزُّهْرِيُّ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنْ وَاثِلَةَ .

Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not of us who does not show kindness to our young and does not honour our elder."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and the narrator al-Zuhri did not hear from Sayyiduna Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him).

وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يُجِلَّ كَبِيرَنَا ، وَيَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَفِيهِ عُفَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْدَانَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ جِدًّا .

وَعَنْهُ قَالَ : بَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَأَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ ، إِذْ أُتِيَ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ شَرَابٌ ، فَنَاوَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ : أَنْتَ أَوْلَى بِهِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " خُذْ " . فَأَخَذَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْقَدَحَ ، قَالَ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَشْرَبَ : خُذْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ . فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اشْرَبْ ، فَإِنَّ الْبَرَكَةَ مَعَ أَكَابِرِنَا ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَرْحَمْ صَغِيرَنَا ، وَيُجِلَّ كَبِيرَنَا ، فَلَيْسَ مِنَّا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ يَزِيدٍ الْأَلْهَانِيُّ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

It is narrated from him that he said: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was seated, and with him were Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and some other Companions of his. Meanwhile a cup containing a drink was brought. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held the cup out to Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! You are more entitled to it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You take it." Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) took the cup, and before drinking he again requested of him: O Prophet of Allah! You take it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You drink, for the blessing is with our elders. Whoever does not show kindness to our young and does not honour our elder is not of us."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ali bin Yazid al-Alhani, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The elder, the elder (give the elder the first turn)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Muhammad bin Abi Layla, who has a poor memory.
