عَنْ أَبِي حَسَّانَ قَالَ : دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرٍ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا - فَأَخْبَرَهَا أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " الطِّيَرَةُ فِي الدَّارِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ وَالْفَرَسِ " فَغَضِبَتْ وَطَارَتْ شَقَّةٌ مِنْهَا فِي السَّمَاءِ ، وَشَقَّةٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ ، وَقَالَتْ : وَالَّذِي أَنْزَلَ الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَا قَالَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَطُّ ، إِنَّمَا قَالَ : " كَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَتَطَيَّرُونَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ " .
Abu Hassan narrates: A man from Banu Amir came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and told her that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was narrating this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ill omen (or misfortune) is in a house, or in a woman, or in a horse." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) became angry, extremely angry, and said: "By the One who sent down the Qur'an upon Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never said this. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The people of the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) used to take ill omens from these.'"
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ : قَالَتْ : إِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - كَانَ يَقُولُ :
" كَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ : الطِّيَرَةُ فِي الدَّارِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ وَالْفَرَسِ " . ثُمَّ قَرَأَتْ عَائِشَةَ : مَا أَصَابَ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ الْآيَةَ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
" كَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ : الطِّيَرَةُ فِي الدَّارِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ وَالْفَرَسِ " . ثُمَّ قَرَأَتْ عَائِشَةَ : مَا أَصَابَ مِنْ مُصِيبَةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ الْآيَةَ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
In one narration the words are: Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people of the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) used to say: 'Ill omen (or misfortune) is in a house, or in a woman, or in a horse.'" Then Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) recited this verse: "No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves except that it is in a record (that is, according to the decree of destiny)."

Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ill omen is in three things: in a riding animal, in a dwelling and in a woman."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abdullah bin Budayl bin Warqa', who is thiqah (trustworthy); however, Abu Hisham al-Rifa'i said: "He makes many mistakes." In this narration he is the teacher of Imam Abu Ya'la.

وَعَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ : ذَكَرْتُ الطِّيَرَةَ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ، فَقَالُوا : فِي الْمَرْأَةِ وَالدَّارِ وَالدَّابَّةِ . فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - :
" إِنْ كَانَ مِنْهَا فِي شَيْءٍ فَفِي الْفَأْلِ " .

" إِنْ كَانَ مِنْهَا فِي شَيْءٍ فَفِي الْفَأْلِ " .

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I mentioned ill omen (or evil omens) in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people said: "It is either in an animal, or in a woman, or in a house." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If this could be in anything, it would be in a good omen (fa'l)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Muhammad bin Aban; if he is al-Wasiti, then Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy), though he has been criticised. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنْ قَوْمًا جَاءُوا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا دَخَلْنَا هَذِهِ الدَّارَ وَنَحْنُ ذَوُوا وَفْرٍ فَافْتَقَرْنَا ، وَكَثِيرٌ عَدَدُنَا فَقَلَّ عَدَدُنَا ، وَحُسْنُ ذَاتِ بَيْنِنَا فَسَاءَ ذَاتُ بَيْنِنَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " دَعُوهَا وَهِيَ ذَمِيمَةٌ " . فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ نَدَعُهَا ؟ قَالَ : " بِيعُوهَا أَوْ هَبُوهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَقَالَ : أَخْطَأَ فِيهِ صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ ، وَالصَّوَابُ أَنَّهُ مِنْ مُرْسِلَاتِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، قُلْتُ : وَصَالِحٌ ضَعِيفٌ يُكْتَبُ حَدِيثُهُ ، وَفِيهِ أَيْضًا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، ضَعَّفَهُ ابْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ، وَذَكَرَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ فِي الثِّقَاتِ ، وَنَقَلَ تَضْعِيفَ ابْنِ الْمَدِينِيِّ لَهُ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَقَالَ : أَخْطَأَ فِيهِ صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ ، وَالصَّوَابُ أَنَّهُ مِنْ مُرْسِلَاتِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ ، قُلْتُ : وَصَالِحٌ ضَعِيفٌ يُكْتَبُ حَدِيثُهُ ، وَفِيهِ أَيْضًا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، ضَعَّفَهُ ابْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ، وَذَكَرَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ فِي الثِّقَاتِ ، وَنَقَلَ تَضْعِيفَ ابْنِ الْمَدِينِيِّ لَهُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! When we moved into this house we were well-off, then we became poor; our numbers were many, then our numbers became few; there was good relations between us, then disputes arose between us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave it, for it is blameworthy." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! How shall we leave it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sell it or give it away as a gift."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded it and said: Salih bin Abi al-Akhdar made a mistake in it; the correct view is that it is one of the mursal narrations of Abdullah bin Shaddad. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The narrator Salih is da'if (weak), but his hadith is written down. Its chain also contains Sa'id bin Sufyan, whom Ali bin al-Madini graded da'if (weak); Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book "al-Thiqat", and he also quoted that Ali bin al-Madini graded him da'if.

وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ : اشْتَكَى قَوْمٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنَّهُمْ سَكَنُوا دَارًا وَهُمْ عَدَدٌ فَقَلُّوا ، فَقَالَ :
" فَهَلَّا تَرَكْتُمُوهَا وَهِيَ ذَمِيمَةٌ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حَمِيدِ بْنِ كَاسِبٍ ، وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ وَغَيْرُهُ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ .
" فَهَلَّا تَرَكْتُمُوهَا وَهِيَ ذَمِيمَةٌ " .

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Harithah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some people complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that they lived in a house where their numbers had at first been many, and then they became few. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not leave it? It is blameworthy."

وَعَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - :
" إِنَّ مِنْ شَقَاءِ الْمَرْءِ فِي الدُّنْيَا ثَلَاثَةً : سُوءَ الدَّارِ ، وَسُوءَ الْمَرْأَةِ ، وَسُوءَ الدَّابَّةِ " . قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا سُوءُ الدَّارِ ؟ قَالَ : " ضِيقُ سَاحَتِهَا وَخُبْثُ جِيرَانِهَا " .
قِيلَ : فَمَا سُوءُ الدَّابَّةِ ؟ قَالَ : " مَنْعُهَا ظَهْرَهَا ، وَسُوءُ خُلُقِهَا " .
قِيلَ : فَمَا سُوءُ الْمَرْأَةِ ؟ قَالَ : " عُقْمُ رَحِمِهَا ، وَسُوءُ خُلُقِهَا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُمْ .
" إِنَّ مِنْ شَقَاءِ الْمَرْءِ فِي الدُّنْيَا ثَلَاثَةً : سُوءَ الدَّارِ ، وَسُوءَ الْمَرْأَةِ ، وَسُوءَ الدَّابَّةِ " . قَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَا سُوءُ الدَّارِ ؟ قَالَ : " ضِيقُ سَاحَتِهَا وَخُبْثُ جِيرَانِهَا " .
قِيلَ : فَمَا سُوءُ الدَّابَّةِ ؟ قَالَ : " مَنْعُهَا ظَهْرَهَا ، وَسُوءُ خُلُقِهَا " .
قِيلَ : فَمَا سُوءُ الْمَرْأَةِ ؟ قَالَ : " عُقْمُ رَحِمِهَا ، وَسُوءُ خُلُقِهَا " .

Sayyidah Asma' bint Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among a man's misfortunes in this world are three things: a bad house, a bad wife and a bad riding animal." She asked: "What is meant by a bad house?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That it is cramped and its neighbours are evil." It was asked: "What is meant by a bad animal?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That it does not let one ride on its back and has a bad temperament." It was asked: "What is a bad wife?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That her womb is barren and her character is bad."
