Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever hangs an amulet, may Allah not fulfil (his purpose) for him; and whoever hangs a "wada'ah" (a seashell, a kind of amulet), may Allah not (fulfil his purpose)."

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some people came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He took the pledge of allegiance from nine of them and withheld from one. It was said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! You have taken the pledge from nine and left this one." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has an amulet on him." That man put his hand in and cut it off, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took his pledge and said: "Whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk."
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and the narrators of Imam Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).

A narrator named Isa narrates: We came to Sayyiduna Abu Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit him in his illness. We said: "Will you not hang something (an amulet)?" He said: "Death is nearer than that. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever hangs something is left to it.'"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in the section on kunyas, in the biography of Sayyiduna Abu Ma'bad al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a ring on a man's upper arm. The narrator says: I think the narration has these words: that ring was made of brass. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you, what is this for?" He said: "It is to remove weakness." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It will only increase you in weakness. Throw it away from yourself! For if you were to die while it is on you, you would never succeed." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:

For if you were to die while believing that it benefits you, you would die upon other than the fitrah (that is, the religion of Islam)."
