A narrator named Isa narrates: We came to Sayyiduna Abu Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit him in his illness. We said: "Will you not hang something (an amulet)?" He said: "Death is nearer than that. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever hangs something is left to it.'"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in the section on kunyas, in the biography of Sayyiduna Abu Ma'bad al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator says: According to one view, his name is Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ukaym (may Allah be pleased with him). I say: If it is him, then his being a Companion is established by his words "I heard". Its chain contains Muhammad bin Abi Layla, and he had a poor memory. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
