It is reported about Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw a man with a brass ring (that is, a band or bangle) on his upper arm. He asked: "What is this for?" He said: "It was prescribed to me for protection from weakness." He said: "If you die while it is on your body, you will be left to it, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'He is not one of us who takes evil omens or for whom evil omens are taken, or who practises soothsaying or for whom soothsaying is practised, (the narrator says: I think the narration also has these words:) or who practises sorcery or for whom sorcery is practised.'"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ishaq bin al-Rabi' al-Attar, whom Abu Hatim declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Amr bin Ali graded him da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
