Sayyiduna Bahz (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to use the tooth-stick (miswak) widthwise, drink by sipping, and take three breaths, and he would say: "This is more pleasant, more beneficial and more wholesome."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration. Its chain contains Thubayt bin Kathir, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting, he would begin (at the time of breaking the fast) by drinking (something), and he would not gulp all of it (the water or drink) in one go; rather, he would drink it in two or three times.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration with two chains. In one of them his teacher is Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir, whom I do not know. The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form. Its chain contains al-Mu'alla bin Irfan, and he is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to drink taking three breaths. When he brought the vessel towards his mouth, he would mention the name of Allah, and when he moved it away, he would praise Allah Almighty. He would do this all three times.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Atiq bin Ya'qub, who is one of the narrators of the "Muwatta" who narrated from Imam Malik. A group narrated from him, among them Abu Zur'ah, who said: "It has reached me
that he had memorised the Muwatta during the lifetime of Imam Malik." The remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Uyaynah bin Hisn came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and at that time there was a man with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water; it was brought, and he screened himself and then drank it. He (Uyaynah) asked: "What is this?" the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Modesty and faith — they were given both of them, and you have been denied both of them (or: both of these were not given to you)."
