Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to drink taking three breaths. When he brought the vessel towards his mouth, he would mention the name of Allah, and when he moved it away, he would praise Allah Almighty. He would do this all three times.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Atiq bin Ya'qub, who is one of the narrators of the "Muwatta" who narrated from Imam Malik. A group narrated from him, among them Abu Zur'ah, who said: "It has reached me
that he had memorised the Muwatta during the lifetime of Imam Malik." The remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
