Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever hoards food grain for forty days has disowned Allah Almighty, and Allah Almighty disowns him. And any neighbourhood whose people wake up in the morning while there is a hungry person among them, the protection of Allah Almighty is withdrawn from those people."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, al-Bazzar, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it; its chain contains a narrator Abu Bishr al-Amluki, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared da'if (weak).

Al-Hasan narrates: Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) became gravely ill, so Ubaydullah bin Ziyad came to visit him. He said: O Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him), do you know that I have shed blood unlawfully? He replied: No, I do not know of it. He asked: Do you know that I have interfered in any of the prices of the Muslims? Sayyiduna Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: I do not know of it. Then he said: Sit me up. Then he said: O Ubaydullah, listen, I will tell you something which I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not once, not twice (that is, more times than that). I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever interferes in any of the prices of the Muslims in order to raise them against them, it is binding upon Allah Almighty to seat him in a great part of the Fire on the Day of Resurrection." Ubaydullah asked: Did you yourself hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes, not once, not twice (more times than that).
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, except that he recorded these words: "It is binding upon Allah Almighty to cast him into a great part of the Fire." Its chain contains a narrator Zayd bin Murrah Abu al-Mu'alla; I have not found anyone who has written his biography, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about hoarding, what it is. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is that when a man hears of prices falling, it displeases him, and when he hears of them rising, he rejoices at it. Wretched is the hoarding servant: if Allah Almighty lowers prices, he grieves, and if Allah Almighty raises prices, he rejoices."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator Sulayman bin Salamah al-Khaba'iri, who is matruk (abandoned).
