Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A person came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Here the narrator named Musa reported these words in his narration: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah! My mother has passed away. She has left behind jewellery; shall I give it in charity on her behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Did your mother instruct you to do so? He replied: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Keep your mother's jewellery with you.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration. Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, however in it he reported these words: "My mother passed away; she left jewellery, and she did not make a bequest. Will it benefit her if I give it in charity on her behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Keep your wealth with you." The narrators of Imam al-Tabarani are the narrators of the "Sahih", and the chain of Imam Ahmad contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whenever a person from any household dies, and after his death they give something in charity on his behalf, Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) presents it to that deceased person as a gift on a tray made of light. Then he stands at the edge of the grave and says: O occupant of the deep grave! This is a gift which your family has sent to you, so accept it! Then he brings this gift to him, and he is delighted by it and receives glad tidings, while his neighbours to whom nothing has been sent as a gift become sad."
