وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ سَعْدًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ أُمِّي تُوُفِّيَتْ وَلَمْ تُوصِ أَفَيَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَلَيْهَا ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِالْمَاءِ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! My mother has passed away and she was not able to make any bequest. If I give charity on her behalf, will it benefit her? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes. And you should (give charity in the form of) water.
