Zadhan Abu Umar narrates: Someone who heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this narrated it to me: "Whoever is prompted at the time of death to say 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah) will enter Paradise."

Sa'id bin Abdullah al-Awdi narrates: I was present with Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was in the throes of death. He said: "When I die, do with me as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. He said: 'When one of your brothers dies and you have levelled the earth over him, let one of you stand at the head of his grave and say: O so-and-so son of so-and-so, O son of so-and-so (woman)! For he hears but does not answer. Then let him say: O so-and-so son of so-and-so (woman)! And he will sit upright. Then let him say: O so-and-so son of so-and-so (woman)! And he (the deceased) will say: Guide us, may Allah Almighty have mercy on you, but you people will not perceive it. Then let the man say: Remember that upon which you left the world: the testimony that there is no god but Allah Almighty and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger, and that you were pleased with Allah Almighty as Lord, with Islam as religion, with Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as Prophet and with the Qur'an as guide. (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says:) Then each of Munkar and Nakir takes hold of his companion's hand and says: Come with us! We will not sit with someone who has been prompted with his argument. And Allah Almighty will be the one who pleads his argument for him, instead of Munkar and Nakir.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What if one does not know (the name of) his mother?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Then he should attribute him to Sayyidah Hawwa' (may Allah be pleased with her) and say: O so-and-so son of Hawwa'.'"

Yahya bin Talhah narrates: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) sad and asked: "What is the matter with you?" Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'I know some words which, if a servant says them at the time of death, Allah Almighty will relieve his distress and make his complexion radiant, and he will see what pleases him.'" Then Sayyiduna Talhah said: "I could have asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, yet I still did not ask him about it." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I know what those words are." Sayyiduna Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "What are they?" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Do you know of any word more excellent than the word to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) invited his uncle (Abu Talib) near the time of his death?" Sayyiduna Talhah said: "That is it, by Allah, that is it." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It is 'La ilaha illallah'."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Hadith Takhrij «
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let none of you ever say: 'O Allah! Prompt me with my argument,' for the disbeliever is prompted with his argument. Rather, a person should say: 'O Allah! Prompt me with the argument of faith at the time of death.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, who has been criticised. Its chain also contains al-Sakan bin Abi Kari'ah, and I do not know him.
