Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Islam has ten portions, and whoever has none of them has been disgraced: bearing witness that there is no god but Allah Almighty, and this is the religion (millah); the second (thing) is prayer, and it is the natural disposition (fitrah); the third thing is zakah, and it is purification; the fourth thing is fasting, and it is a shield; the fifth thing is Hajj, and it is the prescribed way (shari'ah); the sixth thing is jihad, and it is a strong backing; the seventh thing is enjoining good, and it is loyalty; the eighth thing is forbidding evil, and it is the proof; the ninth thing is the community (jama'ah), and it is harmony; the tenth thing is obedience, and it is protection."

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "There are three things on which I can swear an oath: Allah Almighty has not made the one who has a share in Islam like the one who has no share (in Islam), and the shares of Islam are three: prayer, fasting and zakah; (the second thing is:) the servant whom Allah Almighty befriends in this world, He will not hand over to anyone else on the Day of Resurrection; and (the third thing is:) when a man loves a people, Allah Almighty will place him with them. And if I were to swear an oath on a fourth thing, I hope that I would not be sinful, (and it is:) the servant whom Allah Almighty covers in this world, He will also cover on the Day of Resurrection."

(The second thing is:) the servant whom Allah Almighty takes as a friend in this world, He will not hand that servant over to anyone else in the Hereafter.
