Sayyiduna Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him), who is not the son of Abu Musa, narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Drink, but do not become intoxicated."
Abu al-Ahwas Sallam bin Sulaym narrated it this way. Al-Nasa'i said: This hadith is munkar (rejected); Abu al-Ahwas erred in it, and we know of no one among the students of Simak who corroborated him. Ahmad bin Hanbal said: Abu al-Ahwas used to err in this hadith. Abu Awanah narrated it from Simak, from Qirsafah, a woman of their people, from Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: "Drink, but do not become intoxicated." This too is not established; it is not known who this Qirsafah is, and what is well known from Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) is the opposite of that.

Imam al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Abu al-Ahwas erred in both its chain and its text. Likewise Muharib bin Dithar narrated it from Ibn Buraydah, from his father.

Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said that it was his view and the view of his companions that if drinking a drink causes intoxication, it is not permissible for it to be drunk again.
Al-Daraqutni said: Hajjaj bin Artah is da'if (weak), and the previous report is in fact a saying of Ibrahim al-Nakha'i.

Zakariyya bin Adi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) came to Kufah while he had some illness. Waki' (may Allah have mercy on him), his companions and the people of Kufah came to him and began discussing with him. When they reached (the issue of) drink, Ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) began citing to them hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the Muhajirun and the Ansar, and they said: "No, narrate to us from our own hadith." So Ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated through al-Hasan bin Amr al-Fuqaymi, from Fudayl bin Amr, from Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him), that they used to say: "A drink in which intoxication develops may never be drunk." At that their heads bowed. Ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "I have never seen people stranger than these: I narrated to them the reports of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the Muhajirun, the Ansar and the Tabi'in, and they would not accept them; then I narrated from Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) and mentioned his saying, and their heads bowed."
