أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الْفَقِيهُ، ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ نَصْرٍ، ثنا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ: " اقْضِ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ " وَكَذَلِكَ رُوِيَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيِّ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ سَمِعَ الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ عَنْهُ هَذِهِ اللَّفْظَةَ، فَذَكَرَهَا عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، وَرَوَاهَا أَيْضًا أَبُو أُوَيْسٍ الْمَدَنِيُّ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Make up one day in its place."
أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، حدَّثَنِي أَبِي، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ حدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ الَّذِي يُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا فِي رَمَضَانَ أَنْ يَصُومَ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ وَرَوَاهُ أَيْضًا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْأَيْلِيُّ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَلَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "ordered the one who had broken a fast in Ramadan to make up one fast."

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، أنبأ عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَنْتِفُ شَعْرَ رَأْسِهِ، وَيَدُقُّ صَدْرَهُ، وَيَقُولُ: هَلَكَ الْأَبْعَدُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " هَلَاكًا مَاذَا؟ " قَالَ: إِنِّي وَقَعْتُ عَلَى أَهْلِي الْيَوْمَ، وَذَلِكَ فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ: " هَلْ عِنْدَكَ رَقَبَةٌ تُعْتِقُهَا؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَهَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ صِيَامَ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَهَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ إِطْعَامَ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا؟ " قَالَ: لَا، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ الرَّجُلُ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ بِعَرَقٍ عَظِيمٍ فِيهِ صَدَقَةُ مَالِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ؟ " قَالُوا: قَدِ انْصَرَفَ، قَالَ: " عَلَيَّ بِهِ "، فَجَاءَهُ الرَّجُلُ، فَقَالَ: " خُذْ هَذَا فَتَصَدَّقْ بِهِ كَفَّارَةً لِمَا ⦗٣٨٢⦘ صَنَعْتَ "، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَعَلَى أَحْوَجَ مِنِّي وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِي، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، مَا بَيْنَ لَابَتَيْهَا أَحْوَجُ مِنِّي وَمِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي، قَالَ: فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ، قَالَ: " فَكُلْ وَأَطْعِمْ أَهْلَ بَيْتِكَ، وَاقْضِ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ "..
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), pulling out his hair, beating his chest and saying: This servant is ruined. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ruined by what?" He said: Today I had intercourse with my wife, and this is Ramadan. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have a slave whom you can free?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Can you fast two consecutive months?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Can you feed sixty poor people?" He said: No. Then the man went away, and one of the people came with a large basket of dates, bringing the charity due on his wealth. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is the one who asked?" They said: He has gone away. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring him to me." A man brought him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this and give it in charity; it will be an expiation for what you did." He said: O Messenger of Allah! To someone more in need than me? By the One in whose hand is my soul, there is no one between the two mountains more in need than me and my household. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled until his (peace and blessings be upon him) molar teeth could be seen. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it and feed your family, and make up one day in its place."
قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، أنبأ عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَعَطَاءٌ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا فِي حَدِيثِ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates the like of it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الشَّافِعِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَعَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: بَيْنَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ يَنْتِفُ شَعْرَهُ، وَيَدْعُو وَيْلَهُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " وَيْحَكَ مَا لَكَ " قَالَ: إِنَّ الْآخَرَ وَقَعَ عَلَى امْرَأَتِهِ فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: " أَعْتِقْ رَقَبَةً "، قَالَ: لَا أَجِدُهَا، قَالَ: " فَصُمْ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ "، قَالَ: لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ، قَالَ: " فَأَطْعِمْ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا "، قَالَ: لَا أَجِدُ، قَالَ: فَأُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَرَقٍ فِيهِ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ، فَقَالَ " خُذْ هَذَا فَأَطْعِمْهُ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا "، قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، مَا بَيْنَ لَابَتَيْهَا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ أَفْقَرُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَّا، قَالَ: " كُلْ أَنْتَ وَعِيَالُكَ ".

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you! What has happened to you?" He said: I had intercourse with my wife in Ramadan. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Free a slave." He said: I cannot find one. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then fast two consecutive months." He said: I am not able to. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then feed sixty poor people." He said: I do not have the means. Then a basket of dates containing fifteen sa' of dates was brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this and feed sixty poor people with it." He said: O Prophet of Allah! There is no one between these two mountains more in need than me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then you and your dependants eat it."
وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الشَّافِعِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، أنبأ يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أنبأ الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدِيثَ الْوَاقِعِ، وَزَادَ فِيهِ: قَالَ عَمْرٌو: وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَقْضِيَ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ وَرَوَاهُ أَيْضًا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ هَارُونَ، وَقَالَ: زَادَ عَمْرُو بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَصُومَ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ، وَرَوَاهُ هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ خَالَفَ الْجَمَاعَةَ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ، فَقَالَ: عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ.
Amr bin Shu'ayb (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), a hadith like this. The hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) is likewise, but Amr added in it that he (peace and blessings be upon him) "ordered him to make up one day."
Yahya bin Abi Talib narrated from Yazid bin Harun that Amr bin Shu'ayb (may Allah have mercy on him) added the words: "He ordered him to fast one day in its place."

أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الصَّفَّارُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ⦗٣٨٣⦘ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاقَعَ أَهْلَهُ فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَعْتِقْ رَقَبَةً "، قَالَ: لَا أَجِدُ، قَالَ: " صُمْ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ "، قَالَ: لَا أَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ: " أَطْعِمْ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا "، قَالَ: لَا أَجِدُ، قَالَ: فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَرَقٍ فِيهِ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ صَاعًا، فَقَالَ " خُذْ هَذَا فَتَصَدَّقْ بِهِ "، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا أَجِدُ أَحْوَجَ إِلَى هَذَا مِنِّي وَمِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي، فَقَالَ: " كُلْهُ أَنْتَ وَأَهْلُ بَيْتِكَ، وَصُمْ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ، وَاسْتَغْفَرِ اللهَ " وَكَذَلِكَ رَوَاهُ جَمَاعَةٌ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ وَرُوِيَ ذَلِكَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرْسَلًا.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had had intercourse with his wife in Ramadan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Free a slave." He said: I cannot find one. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then fast two consecutive months." He said: I am not able to do it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Feed sixty poor people." He said: I do not have the means. Then a basket containing fifteen sa' of dates was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this and give it in charity." He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I do not find anyone more in need of it than me and my household. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Eat it, you and your household, fast one day in its place, and seek forgiveness."
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، وَغَيْرُهُمَا، قَالُوا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، أنبأ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، أنبأ الشَّافِعِيُّ، أنبأ مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، قَالَ: أَتَى أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْتِفُ شَعْرَهُ، وَيُضْرَبُ نَحْرُهُ، وَيَقُولُ: هَلَكَ الْأَبْعَدُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " وَمَا ذَاكَ؟ " قَالَ: أَصَبْتُ أَهْلِي فِي رَمَضَانَ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " هَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ تُعْتِقَ رَقَبَةً؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَهَلْ تَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ تُهْدِيَ بَدَنَةً؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَاجْلِسْ "، فَأُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِعَرَقِ تَمْرٍ، فَقَالَ: " خُذْ هَذَا فَتَصَدَّقْ بِهِ "، قَالَ: مَا أَجِدُ أَحْوَجَ مِنِّي، قَالَ: " فَكُلْهُ، وَصُمْ يَوْمًا مَكَانَ مَا أَصَبْتَ " قَالَ عَطَاءٌ: فَسَأَلْتُ سَعِيدًا: كَمْ فِي ذَلِكَ الْعَرَقِ؟ قَالَ: مَا بَيْنَ خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ صَاعًا إِلَى عِشْرِينَ هَكَذَا رَوَاهُ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، وَرَوَاهُ دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدَ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ بِزِيَادَةِ ذِكْرِ صَوْمِ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرِ الْقَضَاءَ وَلَا قَدْرَ الْعَرَقِ، وَرُوِيَ مِنْ أَوْجُهٍ أُخَرَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، وَاخْتُلِفَ عَلَيْهِ فِي لَفْظِ الْحَدِيثِ، وَالِاعْتِمَادُ عَلَى الْأَحَادِيثِ الْمَوْصُولَةِ، وَبِاللهِ التَّوْفِيقُ.
Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) said that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), pulling out his hair, beating his chest and saying: This servant is ruined. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How so?" He said: I went in to my wife in Ramadan while I was fasting. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Are you able to free a slave?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you able to offer a camel as a sacrifice?" He said: No. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then sit down." Then a basket of dates was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Take it and give it in charity." He said: I do not find anyone more in need than myself. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then eat it, and fast one day for what you did."
Ata' (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) how many dates were in that basket, and he said: Between fifteen and twenty sa'. Dawud bin Abi Hind narrated it from Ata' with the addition of fasting two consecutive months, but he did not mention the making up or the size of the basket.
It has been narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib through other routes, with disagreement over the wording of the hadith; reliance is placed on the connected (mawsul) hadiths.
